Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Eye Rolling

Anyone else have a child that eye rolls?  DD will stop whatever she is doing (playing, walking, etc.) and look up and roll her eyes in the back of her head for a few seconds.  It doesn't seem like it's intentional; it is not like she is being a little princess or something.  This just started on Saturday.  I had her 15 month well-baby pedi visit today and my Dr. (who I love) told me to watch her for a week and call back if she's still doing it.  We got her to do it for just a second while she was doing the visual/neuro exam with a flashlight.  Everything else is right on track.

Just wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing/has experienced the same behavior?

Re: Eye Rolling

  • Yup. DD has figured out that she can move her eyes from side to side, and she also likes to look at me from under her brows. She also thinks it's pretty hysterical when I do it too.

  • Wow already?

Hayden throws temper tantrums. She will throw herself to the ground if she doesn't get her way.

  • DD#2 used to do this when she was really tired.  It usually happened during bath since that seemed to relax her and she got really tired.  She outgrew this and is a perfectly normal 6 year old now (well as normal as 6 year olds can be!!)
  • Ellie was doing the same thing at around 6 months-especially when tired-she was seen by a neurologist and had a head ultrasound. The neuro thought it could be one of 2 benign things-"Bell's Phenomenon" or "Tonic Upward Gaze of Infancy"-all of her reflexes were at the lower end of normal. She hasn't done it since she was around 7 months, but very scary!
