Interesting article re: exercise

Keep in mind that this article addresses exercise and weight loss and not the other benefits of exercise.

Re: Interesting article re: exercise

  • I do get what they're saying, and it does make sense, but in the end it all comes back around to the same old weigh loss = calories in - calories out equation. It still boils down to self-control, moderation, and good choices.

"Because exercise depletes not just the body's muscles but the brain's self-control "muscle" as well, many of us will feel greater entitlement to eat a bag of chips during that lazy time after we get back from the gym."

So just don't do that. Come on, people. I'm sure it's exercise that has put us into the obesity crisis.

Side note: I love the Rudd Center, it would totally be my dream job (aside from working for ESPN). I almost applied for a position there last year. If anyone is interested in their research and policy initiatives, they have a really neat blog and monthly newsletter.

  • I couldn't agree more Jene.  I really thought some of the research was interesting though.  Especially the part about just being more active throughout the day instead of 30-60 minutes of burst activity.  I can see a huge difference on the scales when I'm having a normal week of running around as compared to a week of feeling like crap and not leaving the sofa.
