anyone have chloasma?

I was thrilled to develop this fun side effect of bcps last summer after going back on the pill I was on for 13 yrs prior to TTC, having spotting & switching pills to 'the one' that did this to my face...

anywayyyyy..... last summer when it first started I knew how it quickly darkened with sun exposure so I also tried a moisturizer with tint to try to get a little bit of 'sun' on my face, but that seemed to also make the darkened areas darker than the surrounding skin. All winter I have been using a powder product I've been happy with in terms of evening my skin tone without being heavy but now as warm weather approaches, I'm curious about what others do- self tanner, tinted makeup, bronzer???

Thanks!

Re: anyone have chloasma?

  • I've been using tinted moisturizer/foundation with SPF. As soon as the sun hits my face the big blotches get browner and browner :(

I'm hoping this stops when we wean!

  • If it developed while you were on BCP, it probably won't go away on it's own  and will definitely get worse if you spend any time outside w/o suncreen on.  I developed it while on Yasmin bcp unfortunately.

I've been using Aveeno moisturizer with spf 30 on my face and I also use a foundation with SPF.  I've found that Illuminare foundation works best for me.  I need pretty heavy coverage in the areas that I have melasma.

  • Thanks. Yes, I know it won't go away & the sun makes it worse, that is why I was asking about makeup options for the summer months when I'd like to appear to have some sort of tan... I guess maybe I'll just go with a slightly darker powder or foundation maybe or just go over my regular one with some bronzing powder...

    so annoying :(
