Diaper Rash Question

LO has a rash on his genital area that looks like little red pimples and is more concentrated in some areas.  I guess I only thought of diaper rash occuring on their bottoms.  Has anyone else experiences this.  I am thinking it may be a yeast infection because he was on antibiotics.  It appears to get better then the next day is back to where it was.  Any advise?

Re: Diaper Rash Question

  • My poor LO has had a difficult yeast rash for a while now.  It looks like what you described (little bright red pimples concentrated in certain areas-especially around folds).  You might want to visit your pedi to get an accurate diagnosis on the rash.

My pedi rx'd us Nystatin which didn't seem to help much so then he recommended generic Lotramin which is what we are currently using.  We also do naked time every day.  Still the rash remains.

  • Could it be heat rash?  Or an allergic reation to the diapers?  I would definitely call the pediatrician.

  • DS was having a red rash on his neck from too much moisture (spit up and drool combined with him not lifting his head enough to get plenty of air in there to dry things out). The doc gave us Nystatin. Which made it worse - by turning the redness into the red bumps you're describing. We stopped using it and just made an effort to clean and dry his neck constantly. We also use some baby powder on his neck once in awhile and that helped, too.
  • My LO had this and the pedi told us to use Lotrimin and Hydrocortisone cream. The Lotrimin didn't really do much but the Hydrocortisone (I used Equate Anti-Itch cream) and it was gone in a day.
