cloth diaper ?

My DD drinks a ton during the day these days and keeps leaking through her diaps.  It's not a huge deal as I SAH but it can be annoying to have her britches get a little wet several times in an afternoon.  Anybody else having this sort of issue?  We don't have any problem at all at night as I double stuff her night BG 4.0s but during the day I don't like to double stuff.  It's just too much bulk for a full time walker!

  • Loading the player...
  • I have an entire bottom dresser drawer full of liners of different sorts.  I can try a hemp with a thin terry and see if that helps.

  • We are having the same issue. Where did you get your hemp inserts?
  • So...more than anything I was wondering if anyone else was having any difficulties similar.

  • I got some with diapers and I bought some that are skinny.  I just had been trying to NOT double line her diapers during the day while she would be walking around.

  • We were having that issue and switched to hemp.  I also made sure to do two full rinse cycles as I also questioned buildup.  (I would have stripped them but I recently switched to Rockin Green detergent and found out that I haven't needed to).

I purchased them from Abby's Lane as I LOVE free shipping :)

  • We had that issue with our BG 3.0s.  We switched to Best Bottom with the hemp/organic inserts and are in love, love, love!  I wish Best Bottoms were around back when DS was born and we'd been using them all along.  It's a super easy and relatively inexpensive system.

  • Do you guys use your hemp liners without also using a terry liner?  I always thought you needed a terry liner in front of a hemp so I haven't tried a hemp liner alone.  Please advise!!!

  • Diana, I think it's one or the other.

I use the Sandi's when Carter is at daycare and the only time we have leaks is when they don't pull the cover all the way over is cloth dipe. (I refuse to use my AIO's at daycare because they have other cloth mama's and they are always getting the dipes mixed up).

At home, I use my AIO's and have defintely noticed that they are not absorbing like they should.  I never thought to use a second insert :)

  • We use a hemp/microfiber combo.  The microfiber goes on top because it absorbs fast, the hemp on the bottom because it absorbs a lot.  Pretty much bullet proof for my super soaker!

  • Here is a link (it does not seem to be clicky, sorry) to the blog from Abby's Lane.  It talks about leaks and if they are from build-up or fit/absorbency issues.

how often do you change her?

Sometimes it's every hour never really more than 2-3 hours.  I haven't minded changing frequently but when she still leaks these days after even an hour, heck 30 minutes it can start to get bothersome!

  • If you are changing often enough (and it sounds like you are) then you might think about fitteds with wool. They are great for "super soakers" since the wool absorbs as well as the fitted. You can find used fitteds pretty cheaply on Hyenacart or Diaperswappers. Recycled wool is cheaper than interlock as well. We have used the BG Elementals AIO's with great success. I also find that the BG Flips with the organic cotton insert absorb quite a lot. I have never used the BottomBumpers but I have seen them and I want to try them with the organic hemp inserts.

  • Oh my gosh, yes! Pedi suggested limiting his liquid intake but I just feel like if he's thirsty I should let him drink. I am using BG 3.0 and sometimes during the day I double stuff to try and avoid leaks. At night I've been using a bamboo prefold which has been working pretty well so I might pick up a few more to try during the day too.

The owner of the natural baby store I frequent told me hemp and bamboo are the best for absorption. She was out of hemp which is how I ended up with the bamboo and it's worked great at night! Previously he was waking up wet almost every single day poor guy!
