i guess i'll be on this board for a long time!
ds has his first cold. he got sick on his birthday the other day. he does have a fever of about 102 and has a cough. went to the doc yesterday, but he didn't have a fever then. he's so miserable. i just want to see a range of how long the worst of it has lasted for your LO. i know all LO's are different. just clinging onto to something here. he cries every time he coughs and he's so uncomfortable.
we have the cool mist humidifier going and tylenol (equivalent) every 4 hrs. did the shower steam yesterday twice. what else can i do?
thanks.
Re: hi and how long do your LO's colds last?
usually his colds last about a week, but one of my books was saying that cold symptoms can last 10-14 days and now DS has one that is lasting about 14 days.
He doesn't have a fever or anything, it's just a clear runny nose...but so annoying for both of us.
LO's colds have run anywhere from 2-3 days to a week. Usually the fever is 1-2 days but the misery lasts a while. Most recently we have had a sinus infection that had 2 weeks of non-ending symptoms followed by 3 weeks now of antibiotics.
If there is any sinus congestion at all I just about drown LO in saline spray. The doctor said that if there is drainage you cannot hurt them with too much saline. I use the Simply Saline maximum strength spray can. The ones labeled baby are just the same concentration as most adults sprays. It helps with some coughs also because a cough that's related to the sinus drainage going down into her chest can be loosened by thinning out the sinus drainage. It helped the cough a little bit.
Over 1 year old can have some honey to help soothe sore throats from coughs. I use a 1 teaspoon syringe because it is the least stickiest way I have found to give honey.
Runny drippy noses: I have used the Hylands Cold plus C tablets to good results but I have only used this on plain runny noses not anything with a cough
I have used the vicks baby rub for coughs and used the scented vapor pads with the cool mist humidifier. Some people don't think this helps but if it makes me feel like I've done everything I can then I do it...plus I know I like the vicks rub and I actually like the baby one for myself more than the adult one.
runny nose - 5 days
with cough - 2 weeks...
it has helped to give her a sip of warm water after DD coughed, and sleeping in my or DH chest alway make her feel better...
and my pedi says to let them pick whatever they want to eat so they can feel better.
GL!
