Whole chicken in crock pot?

Hey there! I know I've seen a few of you who have put chickens in the crock pot. What do you season them with and do you put them in frozen or thawed? Thanks for any tips you have!

Re: Whole chicken in crock pot?

  • I've always done mine thawed.  I add carrot, celery, and onion inside and out, salt and pepper, and sometimes some poultry seasoning. I add a little water to the bottom of the pot, but usually I end up with more than enough from the chicken as it cooks.  I usually cook it 8 hrs on low (mine has a timer though and a warm setting so I don't worry about the timing too much, just long enough to make sure it's well cooked).
  • I usually stick half a lemon inside it and add potatoes, carrots, and onions around the chicken in the crock.

  • I put it in thawed.  I usually rinse it and salt and pepper, sometimes some garlic powder, and then put it in on low for a few hours.  Then I add potatoes, carrots, onion and celery.  And cook a few more hours.  I add the veggies later so they don't get too squishy.  I use a meat thermometer to make sure it's done and then I make my DH cut it up, cause cutting meat off the bone grosses me out lately!  :)
