Re: baby shower for 3rd
My take- if someone is offering, you can take them up on it but keep it SMALL. Truly you're closest friends and family. This isn't a time that I would invite "everyone I know".
I'm in the "showers are for 1st babies, to welcome the mom to motherhood" camp, but I recently went to a shower for a friends 2nd - but she's a GOOD friend who I would of course get a gift for anyhow, so lumping that in w/ having a nice afternoon w/ some good friends- great.
But I would be put off by an invitation to someone I'm really not all that close to.
So that's why I say SMALL and truly your CLOSEST friends and family.

That sounds like a very nice idea. It is your first child together, a nice little party where people don't feel pressured to bring gifts is great (and of course most will want to bring a gift anyway!).
