Alabama Babies

I need all the info i can get

I need to know what there is to do out here!!! i cant keep the kids in this summer...so can anyone give me ideas of things to do with the kids (keep in mind I will have a newborn in July)

Whats the weather like in summer here ?Im I going to want to be outside?

Also, any moms of older kids(3-5)? How do i find out about local sports? T-ball? football?

Anything in Birmingham or even McCalla area (hubby works out that way)

Re: I need all the info i can get

  • Well, I'll be clear-it gets HOT here in the summer! It's typically very humid and in the 90s during the  day . Spring always seems like it goes by too fast...the hotter temps will start in May. For places to go, I would first try checking your local city website to see a list of locations of public city parks close to you.

Off the top of my head, there is-

McWane Center-It's a kids science museum with an IMAX dome theater. So it's indoors , all kid friendly, and stroller friendly :) It's in downtown Birmingham.

Birmingham Zoo -has fountain play area in the summer kids can run through to get cool after seeing the animals.

    - Aldridge Gardens in Hoover-it's a botanical garden with paths and a pond. Great place to take a walk, but the longer path isn't paved.

    -Vision Land-amusement park in Bessemer

I am sure I am forgetting something.... Hopefully others will have other suggestions for you :)

Whats the weather like in summer here ?Im I going to want to be outside?  It's HOT, but, as long as you're not going out in the very worst part of the day (noon - 4 ish) you should be fine being outside with a newborn - just stick to the shade

Also, any moms of older kids(3-5)? How do i find out about local sports? T-ball? football? It depends on what suburb you live in.  Call your local parks & rec department.  I think baseball is probably already done with registration.  My cousins have already started practice, but I think soccer might still be a go.

Anything in Birmingham or even McCalla area (hubby works out that way) There are several local parks and playgrounds around.  Also, depending on the suburb you can probably join a community pool.  Homewood, Vestavia and Hoover all have community pools just off the top of my head.

  • If you don't mind driving to Tuscaloosa, CHOM (Childrens Hands On Museum) is there.
