How long would you wait with an almost 3 year old before taking them in to the doctor with vomitting and diarrhea?? Fever at night, but not during the day. Eating and drinking a little...but always losing it one way or another...
How long has this been going on? If they're not able to keep food/water down for more then a day I'd bring them in. When DD had the same issue, they told us to watch for signs of dehydration.. Example: if you push on LO's hand with your finger, count to 5 and lift up, the spot where you pushed will turn white but if it takes longer then a count to 5 to turn back to normal color, thats a sign.. I hope I was able to explain it good.. GL!
My DD had the same thing two weeks ago. It started Wed. nite at 10, she was vomitting all day till about 5, then she could hold only liquids down, then the next day she ate something around 7-8ish held it down for a hour, then started to vomit and have loose watery stool all over again, around noon she spiked a fever off 103-104 so we took her in after 2 rounds of meds every 3-4 hrs to flush the fever and it still didnt go down. By then we had to go to the ER cause clinic was closed they took samples off blood, pee and poo and hooked her to the IV. We were there from 6:30 till 1:00 am after she ate some crackers and juice and kept it down. We were to come back in the morning for a recheck and that night she had BM's all night and vomitted 3 times. So in the morning they admitted her to the hospital and we stayed till Sunday afternoon. My theroy is if you think you should, do it cause it might be serious!!!! I wish we would have went in sooner.

If I feel like the symptoms aren't severe, and I'm dealing with a normal illness, I give routine things like colds and stomach bugs 2 days. If the symptoms are just as bad or worse on the 3rd day, I usually give the doctor a call.
When in doubt I always call and ask them if I should come in. That's what they have phone triage nurses for!
If it was me I would go in asap. My ds just got over a stomach virus with a low grade fever that lasted 7 days. He started throwing up at 3am and by 7pm that night we had him in the ER and he was moderately dehydrated. If we had waited until the next day he probably would have been admitted to the hospital instead of the few hours we spent in the ER. They did an IV and gave him an anti-nausea RX which helped big time. It is scary how fast LO's can get dehydrated.
