3rd Trimester

Mederma Stretch Mark Cream

Okay, before anyone says anything...... I am FULLY AWARE that stretch marks can NOT be prevented, or be totally taken away!!!!!!!

Soo.... Has anyone ever used, or know anyone that has used, Mederma Stretch Mark Cream? Does it work like it says it does?  At what point post pregnancy should I start to use this?  My stretch marks are not bad (yet) they are just light purple... Not deep at all, and not dark at all either.  I am just curious for some input... Thanks!

Re: Mederma Stretch Mark Cream

  • I would start using it now - not after pregnancy.  The sooner you start the more conditioned your skin will be and could prevent them from getting too much worse than they already are and help them heal faster later on.

I lotion up the belly every morning.  I was bad about it when pregnant the first time and paid for it - it was more than a year before I saw any real fading.  This time I'm more diligent about it.

Honestly though I can't vouch for the Mederma stuff, never used it - it was just too expensive.  I'll get something like Nivea or another body lotion like that and wait for it to go on sale when I can combine it with a coupon.

  • Any cream is going to sit on top of the skin- stretch marks are damages below the skin. It's not a scar, and most of the SM creams have the EXACT same formulation as scar creams. Time and moisturizing your skin from the inside out (keeping up with your water and vitamins) is 1000000x more productive for SM repair than any cream.

  • I tried it but it is pricey so I would only use it on the stretch marks that where up higher and not the ones on my hips. They all look the same. After LO is born and your stomach is no longer stretched then they "heal" on their own meaning the dark color will fade and they will be the same color as you skin. Regardless of what you use old stretchmarks return to your normal skin color. So nothing is gonna get rid of them since as PP said they are casued from the inside out.

I have a little success with the CVS generic. Maybe you could try that before you sink your $ into the Mederma? Stretch marks stink, but I've been using a combo of coco butter, CVS generic stretch mark cream AND the palmers stuff. LOL, I've loaded up. My mom never had stretch marks (not sure if that matters) and I haven't really gotten any yet  at 40 weeks pregnant. But, I don't if the combo of creams I'm using has helped or not...I've been using them since 1st tri to prevent getting stretch marks. GL!

  • my mom got me a ton of it from her doctor she works for and i have been using it since the beginning. it honestly hasn't done a thing. i never saw a change in the existing marks and i'm getting a few more towards the end now. plus i can't hardly stand the smell and it sits with you all day so i stopped using it and i just use lotion to keep my skin from itching. I definitely wouldn't pay for it.

I have been using Palmer's and Vitamin E oil twice a day since before I was pregnant..... My mother NEVER had any stretch marks from pregnancy, but I am still getting them.... I am aware its just part of the game, but I figure it I can help them fade after, even more then they will on their own, then I will try it!

  • I have used regular Mederma for a scar on my eyelid and it worked amazingly so I am going to try the stretchmark therapy

  • I have stretch marks from growing on my legs/thighs and I really aren't big. I scar pretty easily and from the day I got pregnant I used Palmers Stretch mark lotion. The mederma was a little expensive for me to try on whim but palmers is much cheaper and target have coupons attached to their lotion bottles! :) I also alternated using that with Bio Oil from the beginning which has excellent reviews for reducing scarring. Bio oil have a coupon for $2 off online too if you go to their website.

I believe the oils are better as they absorb differently into the skin, so I did cream in the am oil in the pm. Palmers also have their own oil too priced a little higher. Even Johnsons Baby Oil I would recommend although greasy!!! :S it contains Vitamin C and anything that comntains collagen or elastin would be good!

Whilst I realize some of stretch marks are genetic they a can still be helped along with prevention with correct diet and supplementation! and stay hydrated too!!! :) but start creaming up NOW!
