No experience with delivery yet but we had our tour Tuesday and it is absolutely gorgeous. The staff that was there seemed very friendly and it was nice and quiet in recovery.

GBMC is kind of polarizing on this board... Some people love it and other's don't.
I had an absolutely WONDERFUL experience there and would highly recommend it. I was high risk and my daughter was born at 33 weeks. My doctor didn't have time to get there before my daughter was born, so I was delivered by the attending physician. To this day I don't know the man's name, but he had the kindest most reassuring voice. The NICU team that attended the delivery was also fabulous.
If we have another child I would definitely go back to GBMC.
I too had a fantastic experience. I had gone in 3x prior to delivery for pre-term labor and had good experiences with the on staff midwife and nurses. I had a scheduled c section due to breech and I had a great surgery and great aftercare. I had one crappy nurse my entire 5 day stay and she was just sort of rude, nothing too bad. I was really well taken care of and felt like I was in a hotel more than recovering from surgery. I loved all the baby nurses and everyone was really helpful with breastfeeding assistance. LO was only in the nursery for about 4 hours total and I liked that they were so good about rooming in.
LO was loosing too much weight and instead of pushing formula they encouraged me to pump and supplement. I saw two LC's there and they were both super helpful, albeit rushed.
I will definitely be going back there if we have another.
Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!
We had a great experience there. My nurse was fantastic, and really kept me focused. She was so sweet to my husband too, which meant a lot to me. We will definitely deliver there again!
Haven't delivered yet but I;ve heard nothing but good things and was very impressed when we went on the tour. my dr is also there and love him and the staff.
I love GBMC.. Last Spring, I spent 6 weeks on unit 27 (high risk) and then my LO came early and spent 7 weeks in the NICU. We had great staff and I had only one nurse out of all those weeks that I didn't care for. They were great to me, the baby, my husband and my other kids.
Both of my DDs were born there, and both times I had great experiences, overall. I had scheduled c/s both times, and with DD1 I encountered one nurse I didn't like, and the nurse who did my IV while I was being prepped sucked. (If Nora comes in to administer your IV, ask for someone else!) Everyone else was great.
With DD2, there was one LC I didn't care for. Considering how many different nurses/techs/LCs you may deal with for a four-day stay, I'd say that's pretty good. I'd go back without giving it a second thought if we were to have a third child.
I did not deliver at GBMC. But I do have some "thoughts" ;-) One of the post-ers mentioned a polarization on the topic of GBMC. It has a great reputation for its facilities, it is beautiful as you can see from the post-ers who have toured but not delivered as of yet. It also handles a lot of high risk pregnancy (along with Hopkins and UMD in the city) which is fantastic if you are a known high risk pregnancy. It also unfortunately has one of the highest c-sect rates in MD. So in class I typically suggest to students to look into their practitioner's c-sect rates as well as their hospital's rates. One of the easiest ways to avoid a c-sect is to look for people/places with low rates. GBMC is high, for better or for worse.
