Anyone use a SPIO suit?

We just got the pants for Izzy and tried them for a few minutes tonight just to see if they fit and she already seemed a little steadier on her feet.  I'm just wondering if anyone has tried the pants, shirt or vest and if you had any feedback?

Thanks,

Sarah

Re: Anyone use a SPIO suit?

  • No experience, but thanks for posting about it.  This looks like something that could be useful to my son who has significant hypotonia and motor delays.

I can see how it might help from past athletic experiences and hope it works great for Izzy.

  • oooh! We're looking into these right now. We got a loaner theratog and I don't feel like its enough at all for DD. The SPIO is supposed to be a lot thicker and I guess it comes in the different options so that makes it even better. We're also looking at Dynamic Orthotics.

  • That's cool that he got to wear a Kevlar vest.  Kevlar is definitely quite a bit heavier than the SPIO suit but I can see the general idea being the same.  I definitely see a lot of reviews from parents of kids on the spectrum and Izzy has some sensory issues so I'm wondering if I should get her the vest too.  Will have to see how the pants work first.
  • can you borrow a vest/pants from the OT or through early intervention?

Unfortunately, our early intervention doesn't have any.  I have a friend who was able to do this, but their program is much better than ours.

  • Ooooh... interesting.  Just emailed my OT about this to see if she has experience.  If she's on board, we might try one out with Zach.
