Re: s/o iron... Anyone not take any while pregnant with multiples???

  • Feel like the only one that hasn't read his book yet.  (full time work + 2 1/2 yr old + DH who travels=no time)  But just curious - why???

I am eating a salad right now with lots of spinach but still take a 65mg iron supplement cause my doc told me to.

  • My dr told me at my 30wk appt that my iron was slightly low and said I should take a 65mg/daily supplement. So I just started it but my levels were fine in the beginning of preg. unless your dr says so you may not need it

  • I never took an iron supplement but I did have one test come back with low iron so my OB told me to up my intake of iron rich foods (like red meats, dark leafy greens etc) so I did that.  I had been told that if that didn't help, I may get put on a supplement but that never happened.  But, I want to say my boys came probably only a few weeks after this (they came right around 33 weeks) so they may not have had the chance to get me on a supplement (if I needed it) before my boys were born.

  • I started out taking an over-the-counter prenatal vitamin that (I didn't realize) didn't have iron in it.  (Unfortunately, I was ignorant in that area.)  I had a few tests in the 2nd trimester come back with low iron, so my MFM put me on supplements.  Now I take a prenatal with iron and the supplement at different times of day.

  • The prenatal I took contained iron. I am not 100% how much it contained, but my OB never mentioned taking an additional supplement. My iron levels were always fine...

  • I just took a PNV.  My OB did check my iron levels during the beginning of the third tri and they were fine.

  • My iron levels have been low since 2nd tri even with iron in my PNV.

Dr. told me to take Slow FE which is OTC.

  • The only other supplement my doctor recommended outside of the Prenatal was Folic Acid, and it was never mentioned to me after any of my blood testing about my iron. WIC checked my iron levels 2 months post partum and they were 10.2, which is pretty low, so I've been taking a supplement every day, hope it's working!

  • Another person that hasn't read the book... or took iron supplements during pg.  Just regular prenatal vitamins and extra folic acid (bc of a deficiency I have).
