i am a stahm to my 7 month old dd. we are trying to cut monthly expenses and so i am considering switching to cloth diapers. they just seem like a pain - having to do a load of laundry everyday, etc, but i admit that i definitely don't know much about the process. i looked on jilliansdrawers.com, but i got confused and decided just to ask opinions from fellow bumpies! any comments/experiences would be appreciated! thanks!
Re: cloth diapering decision
Check out the FAQ at the top of the board, tons of good information there!
And it's not that much work, don't psych yourself out before you get started!
first misconception... is that you have to do laundry every day... that's wrong.
it depends on the individual person, but for me, i wash my dipes about every 4-5 days. my stash is large enough to last that long, and even though some momma's might cringe at letting them go that long, my washing system works great for me, and i don't have any stink or staining problems.
some people wash every 2, or 3 days.
i have only grobaby in my stash, 11 covers and 30 inserts and like i said, it works for me.
there's a ton of info out there, but once you start reading, you realize that it's pretty much all the same info.
good luck with your journey... it really is a lot of fun!
For me, doing diaper laundry is NOTHING compared to regular laundry. No folding or sorting and it's easy to put away. I spend a few minutes stuffing a few pockets for day care, but it's literally a piece of cake.
My husband was on the fence about cloth diapers and he sounded a lot like your post. We visited some friends of ours who CD and got a look at their system. Once we saw it all broken down it was like a light bulb went on and we both saw exactly how it would work for us.
Listen to the stories about how mamas here make it work and you'll begin to get a picture of how your own system will work.
