DD has always been high-maintenance - she has reflux and was colicky for about 8-10 weeks. She's over 3 months now and has gotten soooooo much better...we actually take her out in public now!
However, she is still very high maintenance. She likes things the way SHE wants them, and very whiney/fussy when she isn't happy. She is definitely not a laid-back baby at all! I was hoping she'd calm down now that she's past the newborn stage, but she can still SCREAM with the best of them.
Just looking for other fussy baby moms to commiserate with. She's charming when she's in a good mood, but when she is overtired/unhappy, watch out!!
Re: Anyone else w/ a high maintenance DC?
Yup. My 13 weeker had colic SO bad. We thought for sure that there was no way we'd get another colicky baby. HAHAHA! Joke was on us. He was so much worse than dd.
He is much much better now. And is actually very charming when he is well rested. If there is one thing I learned with dd, it's that former colicky babies generally equal high maintenence kids. And they won't generally just fall asleep anywhere like a lot of kids. It's pretty hard to keep them well rested.
It didn't get "easy" until she was about 6 months. And then at one year it was even better.
DS is the same way, you have to keep him occupied at all times or he will have an absolute fit. And it has to be his way. He also gets very cranky when he is tired and will fight going to sleep. Believe me he has gotten better but you still can't just put him in his bouncer or swing and let him play. I'm hoping once he can sit up on his own he will be able to occupy himself for a little while.
DS has reflux and while the medicine has helped, he still has days where he is a fussypants all day! He is 9 weeks old, so I am hoping in another few weeks it will get better. I love him to death and he can be so sweet and charming, but there are times where I get so frustrated b/c of the reflux fussiness!
I would have characterized Alaina in much the same way until I realized she really was just overtired all of the time. I now put her down for a nap after only 2hrs of being wake and she naps very easily at 9a and 1p and sleeps for 12 hrs at night (not straight thru but her wakings are very quick and only about 15 mins each).
She is most pleasant now
Before realizing this I literally would have her up all day long if she would stay up........and I'd wonder why I got The Cranky Child
MY DD is VERY high maintenance. Her baptism was this past Sunday and she was the only baby that cried. She cried from the middle all the way to the end. Then we had lunch at a restaurant with our family and she cried the entire time. As soon as we got home, and it was just DH and I, she was smiling and cooing at us. I think she doesn't like to be around a lot of people. She definitely likes things her way. I have to try what PP said about putting her down for naps on a schedule. The problem is she gets so wound up, I have a hard time putting her to sleep. I'm hoping it'll get better soon. Some nights are great, and then she'll go a week or two and fuss every night when we try to put her to bed.
