I haven't posted in a while. Things have been pretty hectic here. On Feb 19th my husband went to the doctor. He was having a hard time catching his breath after doing very minor things (walking to the car, scraping snow off the car, etc.) He thought he was coming down with something. I asked him to go the doctor and he went.
They took it very seriously and sent him for further tests -- a chest xray, an EKG, an echocardiogram, a transesophageal echocardiogram, and then on Monday he had a cardiac catherization. He's at a new hospital with a highly recommended aortic specialist (recommended by his previous doctor) and he had 3 of those tests repeated today.
Long story short -- they found two issues that he was born with but never knew he had. He will need open heart surgery to repair them. One area has a hole in it and the other has a small fistula (tunnel) between it and another area. That is making him have a hard time catching his breath because it's sending extra blood to his lungs.
We aren't sure when he'll have surgery...we are hoping to have more info tomorrow. The doctor did say that most likely it will be scheduled for later next week. It's possible that they may send my husband home if they deem him okay to be out of the hospital until then. We'll see.
It's been very hard, to say the least.
Re: My husband is going to have heart surgery
Wow, that sounds like quite the hectic week. Kudos to you for insisting on getting it checked out, and kudos to the doc for running tests and finding this.
I hope the surgery goes well and that your DH is on the mend soon.
Healing prayers coming your DH way and support prayers coming your way! This must be really stressful. I am sure everything will be okay and it is good that they caught this and can help him be healthy before anything went wrong. I sure hope you have lots of support and help from family.
Prayes and best wishes your way!

Oh, what an awful surprise to find out. Mr.JJ was born with a heart murmur, but luckily it's healed.
I am sending your H and your family heaps of good wishes for a succesful surgery and speedy recovery.
How scary for all of you. I'll be praying for you all.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate the support (and offers to help, LadyRed.) Thanks.
I updated above about how he came home today...I'm so glad. I just wish the hard part was over and he was already on the road to recovery.
