Zoo Membership

Zoo Memberships are 20% off in March (I know many of you know this already from FB)

Question:  What age do you think is good to start going to the zoo?  We took Jackson to the zoo in SC when we visited the IL's in January and he liked it, he seemed to enjoy looking at the animals.   Just debating if we want to do a membership now or wait until next spring/summer.  I SAH and my mom doesn't work so we would most likely get the single parent pass so she could go with me during the week and then DH could go with us on the weekends.  Thoughts?

Re: Zoo Membership

  • Carter was the same age last summer that Jackson will be this summer.  We got our membership in the spring and went for the first time last April.  I would say that we got our use out of it since we went 2-3 times per month.  He was definitely more interested towards the end of the summer, loved the animals and loved the carousel and train.

  • We got one the year DS was born.  If anything it was a way for me to get out and we would often meet a friend.  Plus it's a killer workout to push the stroller around the zoo!  I think you would definitely get your $$ worth.  You could probably skip the train/tram this year though and save a few bucks.

  • For some reason, we didn't go as much as I thought we would, last year. I'm torn over renewing our membership.
  • I think if you go more than 3 times it pays for itself, especially for festival of lights. We live pretty close so we go often. I agree, I'd skip the train add on to save $ for the first year.

  • We took Finley on Sunday and he LOVED it! We did the single parent gold as well, as we wanted to be able to take any second adult, and wanted the free parking etc. Also, I think he will like the train and merry go round.  Good luck with your decision! If you end up getting it, we should meet sometime there. I SAH too :)

  • We had a single gold pass last year. I liked being able to bring a friend each time and free parking was a must.  Its a great workout when the weather gets nice and the kids love it. Sometimes we went just for the train ride. It was DD fav!

  • DD is 15 months and thinks it is the best place ever.    All last year we went and there was plenty of her to see from the flowers, bird house, manatees,  fish, etc.

  • We love having a membership.  We got the one with the ride passes, because E loves the train.  Seriously if nothing else, it's a place to get out to that I don't have to pay for.  And I hate paying full price for the zoo, because I never stay ALL day.  So having a pass makes more sense.  I can go for a few hours and when E or I am tired, we can leave... or we can leave and eat.  Plus the reduced prices at concessions is nice when we need it.

Oh and if you get one... let me know.  Maybe Eli, Addy, Jackson and their mommas can meet up while I am still out on maternity leave!  :)
