Post here if there is a product, that you have tried previously, that you would advise people to steer clear of or think is a waste of time & money. If you found a superior product similar to it, please include that info, too.
not a product to avoid but rather one to hold dearly: the booger extractor (not the official name but hopefully you know what I'm referring to) from the hospital. We had two of them and they are so much better than the ones you can buy from the store.

nasal aspirator
I agree with the Bumbo (it's not necessary). My DS quickly learned to get out of it by arching his back.
Also, I think sheet savers are a total PITA and a waste of money.
totally disagree on the sheet savers. I love the Ultimate Crib Sheet. I hate making beds and you have to pull up the whole baby mattress to get the fitted sheet off and on. With the UCS you just have to snap it on. Totally worth it, IMO.

That's why I usually don't respond to these posts. Everyone's idea of what isn't a worthy product is very subjective. I found the UCS to be a total waste.
Oh yeah, the aspirator is great to have in the car, too. When I took CPR the nurse who taught it told me to keep one in the console since DS had reflux. She said more than once she had used it to clear her kids' breathing passages during relux episodes.

I like that you responded and told why you don't like them, and why she
did, I never used a sheet saver system, but didn't have too many messes
with DD. My though was why pay for a crib bedding set if no one ever
saw the sheets. I bought extra sheets and had no problems changing them
in the night. It seems like a personal preference item - if you have
the extra money to spend / get it as a gift use it...if not, no biggie!
I agree completely with everyone about the PPTP - friends son used to squirt them off...she placed a washcloth or prefold over his crotch with better results.
The bumbo was ok, she used it for like 3 or 4 months, but if it wasn't a gift, we wouldn't have one.
As mentioned before, every baby, every parent and every situation is different. That is why it is so hard, what works for one, may not for another. My daughter hated the swing, but I got one for this baby hoping he likes it. I love the bumbo seat and my daughter spent hours in it. this baby may hate it. It is up to the baby and what suits your lifestyle. Doing a lot of research helps me to figure out what is right for us and baby will dictate the rest. sorry I can't give you tried and true products.
I will tell you, yes the asirator, a humidifier, diaper cream, Aquafor, washcloths, millions of onesies, towels (with a hood is the best to keep head warm), are some essentials for all moms and babies. But some moms may not like those products, so, again all subjective, sorry.

Re: Products to avoid
Flip diapers- not personal experience, but a friend has them and they have worn out way too quickly.
Other things I found unnecessary: peepee teepees, cart covers, paci clips, bundle mes, scratch mittens
A must have for us: a mirror/activity mat for rear-facing child. It kept DS busy and I could keep an eye on him from the driver's seat.

I always felt wipes warmers were a waste.

Peepee Teepee, ditto on that one.

I thought that the Diaper Champ was a piece of crap. It was no different then throwing a dirty diaper in a regular trash can.
I agree, wipe warmers seem like a waste of money.
RSVPing with my childcare experiences!
Waste: wipes warmer (if you want them warm, use a heating pad on low), UCS, bumbo if you paid more than $10 for it, peepeeteepees
MUST HAVES: Paci clips, seat protector for the car, multiple stashes of burp cloths, dishwasher baskets.

Keep it coming!!
