Pregnant after a Loss

WWYD? Traveling alone when PG

DH's friend is getting married in FL in two weeks and I keep tossing around not going at all.  DH is the best man and is flying down on Wednesday.  I would take my LAST 1/2 personal day Friday afternoon to go to airport and fly down BY MYSELF (never done before).

The rehearsal starts at 5, I land at 6.

The wedding is the next afternoon and I am sure DH will be gone for pictures before the wedding so I would be on my own again.

The wedding is dry (good for me), but there will be a Diaus table and I can't even sit next to DH!  I would be seated next to my SIL with whom I don't hate, but we don't talk as she is painfully quiet and we have nothing in common.

We fly out the next morning- early.  Our flight leaves at 7am.

My dilemma: Do I go?  I would be using my last personal day to go and I have been using them to be parent of the day at DS's nursery school.  I have never flown alone and feel like I would certainly mess something up (I get lost pretty easily).  I would be an emotional mess saying goodbye to DS at airport.  I feel like I wouldn't even see DH the whole day and a half I am there.  It's not like this would be a relaxing babymoon or anything.  On the other side, I am friends with the groom too, and don't want to miss his wedding.  I also don't want to leave DH without a date (even one he can't sit with at the wedding or reception).

If you got to this part, you get a cookie.  I appreciate knowing what you would do in my shoes.

  • I think you've already answered your own question.  It sounds like you don't want to go.

Are there any arguements for going?

  • I don't want to go, mainly because I am so afraid of flying alone.  But I don't want the fear/anxiety of traveling alone to stop me from doing something I should do.

DH wants me to go and it would be nice to get away from the snow.

  • I would probably go, especially if you already RSVPd yes.  Can you schedule a mani/pedi appt or something while your DH would be busy the morning of the wedding? It's a bummer that you don't get to sit with him at dinner, but at least you'll get to spend the rest of the evening with him!  If he wants you to be there, probably a good idea to go.  Just get to the airport as early as you can -- there are plenty of people to ask if you get lost.

IF you decide not to go, try to let them know ASAP. I'd hope they'd understand given the circumstances.

  • No, I wouldn't go personally.

But just so you know, flying by yourself is no big deal. I've done it many, many, many times, and actually prefer it in some ways. You can just handle your own stuff, not worry about another person. It honestly goes much smoother. And it's pretty hard to mess anything up - you show up, go through security, go to your gate. No biggie.

  • It is fun to get dressed up and just be husband and wife sometimes.  this sounds like a super opportunity for that.

  • I wouldn't be so scared of flying alone. I am TERRIBLE with directions, like so bad I get turned around coming out of a bathroom in a restaurant, I rely on my GPS for everything, but I've flown alone twice, once as a teenager, and it's no big deal. Most people arriving in an airport are not natives to the city and need directions and help getting around, so airports are designed to help people get where they're going. You'll be fine.

I've also been to several weddings where DH was in the bridal party, even at different tables, we still always spent tons of time together at the reception, so that's not a big reason not to go, IMO.

All that said, if you don't want to waste your vacation and miss your DS, don't go.

I would pass on the wedding.
