FFFC!

Re: FFFC!

  • I'm one of the ladies that's due the later part of May, I feel like by the time we get to some of the tests etc everyone is sick of them and I don't want to make a post about it but damnit I'm scared. I've gained 30 lbs and my doctor made me feel like a fatty, now I?m worried that maybe I have GD and I'm scared about the test I have on Monday. I am thinking about fasting before it but my draw is not until 10:50 and by then I will be starving and I'm worried I'm going to pass out when they take my blood after not eating and crashing from the sugar high....Yes I'm being a big baby about it. Also, I really am worried about having GD because I don't want to diet..I want to enjoy all this yummy food that I never indulged in before pre pregnancy and don't plan on eating after it (like sweets, I never liked them before being pregnant)

I'm also sort of mad at my OB for making such a big deal about my weight gain. I know 30 lbs is a lot but I'm not overindulging and everyone is telling me I look great and all belly and boobs. I use to work out 5 times a week and now that I just can't bring myself to go work out (yes totally my fault for being lazy) I know it's playing a big part on my weight gain but I don't think it's so out of control that I should keep a food diary and feel guilty about it. My OB is on vacation and I have my appt with someone else on Monday and I'm hoping that this one won't make me feel like crap. I haven't gained a lb since my last visit because it seems like I popped and gained weight early on and now I'm just staling...OK that was a long vent LOL

Still, who the eff eats DURING their test? Does common sense not exist anymore?

I'm sorry I've never done this before. This is my first pregnancy. All I was told going into this was you dont need to fast, drink this drink, wait one hour and we will draw  your blood.

My lab tech told me Specifically NO EATING WHILE WAITING, not even gum. Nothing. Maybe this was your labs mistake not warning you? Still, I had the no-fasting and I was super paranoid about not eating a few hours before to not screw up my test. That thought hadn't crossed your mind, just a bit? Not trying to rag on you, like I said the tech should have mentioned it.

I don't understand how the test works exactly. What difference will it make in the results if I ate literally 3 seconds before taking the glucola or if I had a few tatter tots 3 seconds after drinking the glucola. Either way the food is in my system.

(this isn't me being snotty/snarky/agrumentative I'm genuinly asking)

For the record if I fail I won't have a repeat of this, I have learned my lesson. I will take my 3 hr test without crying (much)

ETA: The tech probably should have mentioned it, but either way, there is no going back now, and the only person I can blame is meEmbarrassed

Because the blood test is to determine how your body handles 50g of glucola in one hour, not 50g of glucola + 3 tater tots.  This is not hard to understand.

I think I just sabotaged my own glucose test. I grabbed some food before (non-fasting test) and ate my biscuit on the way, then came in drank my DELISH orange drink (seriously it tasted like a melted ice pop) and then waited...and i had a few tatter tots left over, so i snacked on them. I wasn't told not to...then the lab tech caught me. She called my doc to see if she wanted me to continue and doc said yea. If i fail they better let me just retake the 1 hr, and not send me thru the 3 hr thing. I wont cry if i do, but since they know what happened they shouldnt right?

If I were your docs office, I'd make you take the 3 hour. Seriously, you were told to fast and you just ignored that advice?

She said it was a non-fasting test.

My office said its only considered 'non fasting" because you drink the drink before the blood is drawn, but people who eat before usually fail.

Ditto.  I wasn't told until I had finished my drink that I couldn't have anything to eat or drink during the hour wait time.  I think sometimes these type of things are everyday occurances to nurses/lab techs that they forget some of the small details.

  • Part of me wants to change the name we have picked out for our little girl.  We've already received gifts embroidered with the first name we had chosen though, so part of me thinks we should not.  Huh?

I am just really liking the name that was our second choice lately.

Word of advice - take something to eat after you have your blood draw.  I had to wait about 30 minutes to see my OB and I was shaky and thought I was going to vomit.

  • My flame free confession is today Im a paranoid pregnant woman. My nurse called me back and said not to worry, I more than likely did lose some of my mucus plug but if I didnt experience any cramping or bleeding to just wait til my next appt on March 7th. Well I am cramping right now but I think its more to do with the food I just ate. I am feeling rumbles so Im sure its because Im about to have an upset stomach but what if Im wrong? I dont wanna call and go in if its only diarrhea cramps. My discharge has also been thinner today which got me thinking how will I know if Im leaking fluid? This pregnancy has turned me into a frazzled mess of nerves, I am over analyzing everything today. I cant wait to have the baby here but then Im sure I'll still worry about her health, development ect. Oh dear...

I feel like everybody gets their tests done a lot sooner than me. I see women posting when they took the GD and I wont be having mine til Im about 30 weeks. It seems a lot later than everybody else.

  • I would like to start by saying that I LOVE flame-free Friday!!!

Here is my confession for the week: The other night I didn't feel like cooking so I made DH take me out to get something to eat. So my dinner that night consisted for a chicken sandwich, fries, and a regular coke from Burger King and ice cream from ColdStone. It was totally worth it!

This.  I ate breakfast before I took my test and passed with no problem.

I also read the bottle while sitting there drinking it, it specifically said on the bottle not to eat anything in that hour.

  • Austin- no worries, you didnt know! They are testing how fast or not fast your body processes sugar, if you have extra food (sugar) in your body to break down you just add to the process..... so your body would either have to be REALLY good at it since you had extra or youll just have to do it again.  they said anything above 130 is high.

Kathy- Im super scared to, and didnt want to talk about it much b/c everyone is OVER IT. Ive gained like 25 lbs and im a week behind you! i also do at least 30 mimnutes of cardio/day! go figure :)

Only eat things that are low GI index. every food has a GI index. It will tell you how fast you metabolize or break down a food and its sugars.  you want things with low or slow.... the drink would be ULTRA high. The less you eat the less work your body has to do and the faster it can break down the drink

  • I hate making Drew cry at night when he needs to be sleeping. He woke up at 4:30 this morning and I made him cry for 30 minutes before he went back to sleep. I know that if I went in there he would think it was time to get up and play, so he cries. But when he finally does lay back down, I feel like I won a major battle and no matter what time it is, DH rolls over and gives me a high five.

I have 11-12 weeks before Alynn is here and I have still not bought a single thing.

Since she is growing well and I am measuring right, I am secretly glad for my weight loss. I didn't try to lose anything but I am really excited to see how my body balances out after she is here. I feel bad thinking that, but I gained 40 lbs that never went
away with Drew and I was terrified of that this time around.

This is the messiest my house has ever been, DH is a horrible house keeper and it is all I can do to not go over my allowed time up to clean, even though I know it is bad for me and baby.

I'm very pro-vaccine but I feel like chicken pox is just not a big deal so why vaccinate for it?

My biggest reason is not wanting to spend a week at home with a cranky, sick kid. That sounds like a really crappy week for both of us.

Plus the fact that while rare, kids do get serious complications from chicken pox. And the part where I didn't get it until I was 12, so I fully remember every miserable bit of being that itchy and sick.

  • If it is a non-fasting test, don't fast. You will be starving and they fasting and non-fasting are measured on different scales. Passing one and passing the other are two different numbers.

Enough with the glucose tests! I don't understand how it could possibly be that hard to understand the directions or stomach the drink. At this point, it's like an awful broken record just keeps playing over and over again...

Give it a month or more and the posts will be mucus plugs and Group B strep tests.

Right now I only work 2 days a week, DH looks after DD on those days and then works the other 5.  It may be a crappy week, but it would be good timing.

I was 6 when my brothers and I got it, my mum was newly widowed and going through exams at teacher's college.  I remember it well, it was stressful for us all.  We were living in my grandparents condo and they were away in Florida for the winter.  Our emergency child care was a lady from down the hall who chain smoked and yelled at us the whole week.

Children should be seen, and heard, and believed. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I hate when the title of a post has unncessary capitalization and exclamation points.  Like, "HELP ME  choose a STROLLER!!!!!"  I judge those people for not being able to realize their stroller, diaper bag, GTT, or shower is not an emergency.

It's hard for me to understand why people wouldn't want their children to participate in a sport (whether it be just for a few years in elementary school or all the way to college).  I do not think sports should be the only focus, but I do think that leanring teamwork and dedication to something can really pay off.  My biggest Embarrassed to that post last night was the people who would rather their kid play a PS3 than be outside and physically active.

I hate posts with titles like "WHY ME?????? :(" or "Got devastating news today"

And then it's about how their favorite ice cream isn't sold in gallon buckets and they have to buy the quart sized.  Or something equally stupid.
