38.5 wk appt - disappointment

I had my 38.5 week appointment today, cervix isn't dialated and while I am "thinning" doctor didn't give me a percentage, so I think he was just trying to make me feel good.

I have had a great pregnancy so far, and have loved being pregnant, but I still would have liked to hear about SOME progress, even though I know that dialation can mean nothing.

Any second time mom's go from no dialation to labor, or did you have to be induced? And yes, I know it is still early, and I am happy to have little one in there as long as need be, I just want to be able to mentally prepare myself.

I am on my first- but I just read on some post last night women talking about the same thing.  And a lot of second time moms said that they showed NO signs of pre-labor (bloody show, mucus plus, dialation) before going into true labor.

I have my 38 week appointment tomorrow, and after reading the other womens' posts, I now won't feel bad about 'not making progress'.

So I guess there's hope for us both!

My appt is in 30 min.  And since I have had no cramping... I think I will be in the same boat as you.  We can have a party.

That was me my first time around.  I had an appointment two days before having my son and the dr said the same thing about thinning (like you, thought she was just trying to make me feel better) and was dilated none.  That was a Friday.  Sunday afternoon my water broke at home, when I arrived at the hospital I was at a 3 and I had my son about 5 hours later!  It can happen that quick!
