Sometime Crossed Eye??

Hey everyone-

My little one just turned 3 months yesterday and we are still noticing a little bit of a cross eye. Tt doesnt happen all the time just when he is tired or over stimulated the rest of the time its 100% normal. Could he just need a little more time or is this something i should worry about? My doctor said that he would re-evaluate at 4mos at his 2 month check up but he wasnt worried. Wanted other moms opinions.

 TIA

Re: Sometime Crossed Eye??

  • I honestly can't remember when it went away, but I know it took a while. It was gone by 4 months for sure.

  • Yes! DS appeared cross eyed, especially looking to his right. His left eye was turning in further (so we thought). At our 4-month appointment the Doc referred us to an ophthalmologist because it should have cleared up by then. We were lucky and got in a few days later. DS got a full exam including dilating his eyes. It was short and sweet. The Doc explained that he has pseudo-cross eyes. Meaning, he only looks cross eyed, but his eyes are perfectly aligned. It's due to the outer lids being shaped differently than one another. His left eye lid covers up his inner eye a bit, therefor hiding the whites of his eye and making him appear cross-eyed. It's just an optical illusion.

Hope all goes well for you!! In case you're going to do research ahead of time, the medial term for crossed eyes is strabismus.

  • DS had this.  Our pedi said she would be more concerned if it lasted past 6 months.  He only does it every once in a while now....usually when something is really close that he is trying to look at.
