Preemies

Intro post.

Hello board. My LO came out at 35 weeks (here is my original post if interested https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/49431867.aspx). I know I will be back here with tons of questions, especially feeding issues.

I admire the strength of anyone that has a preemie and a NICU stay- I really don't know how you do it (though do we have a choice?). I've done some incredibly hard things in life, but watching my baby flail and cry under the bili lights and in the isolette and not being able to hold him is probably the most difficult thing ever.

Re: Intro post.

  • Ask if they have bili blankets! When DD was in the NICU, she was under those lights for what seemed like forever and a day, and I think it took a few days before a nurse realized (duh) we wanted to hold her, then she got us a bili blanket! It's like a flat mat of bili lights, then you put the baby on and swaddle the whole thing so everyone isn't blinded. It wasn't perfect, but we got to hold DD and we were all happy (and she looked like a little glow-worm lol).

  • Wow. I just sat an cried over your blog! We are day 98 into this and it brought back so many emotions from those first few weeks that I almost had put aside. I am sorry you are here and I am amazed at your strength... (and how great you look in  your photos, I am always a hot mess!)
