Best small(er) toys

Hey ladies, looking for recommendations on good smaller, airplane friendly, toddler toys. I'm flying to Europe alone with Ovi in a few weeks....

Re: Best small(er) toys

  • Ada loves schleich animals. They sell them at specialty toy shops, Toys r Us and Target. they do not take up much room and she will paly with two of them for a long time.

Some of them are small enough to be choking hazards, but some of the bigger animals are fine. We have the zebra, wilderbeast, warthog, leopard, tiger, lion, giaraffe, elephant, and kangaroo. I would stay away from the baby animals because they are small.

  • For small toys, M just got into things that roll and loves his letter train/Thomas-type trains and the magnets that connect them.  We also have some FP farm animals that are small, but with wheels (weird I know!) so they're the best of both worlds.  How about stickers and paper?  M would go through sheets and sheets of stickers if I kept handing them to him and a few friends buy the big cheap books to keep their LOs busy during church.   Small board books are also a go to, especially the dictionary style ones where M can keep pointing out things he knows.

We also have an iPad w/ a few episodes of Sesame Street and some toddler games we can pull out when we get desperate.  I haven't flown with it yet but it saved my butt when a car repair went over the 2 hr mark.

  • In my airplane bag at that age there was Play Doh (which was not messy at all at that age) a fan with lights, stickers, a familiar book, color wonder markers and paper, a bunch of snacks, and suckers for the landing. Oh, but just in case you don't already know, a carseat on the plane will make it impossible to fold down the tray table and massive hysterics may ensue. Your seat can be used as a flotation device or it can be removed so that you are able to shove the carseat under it so that the entire plane stops looking at you and wondering why you cannot calm your screaming banshee of a two year old. HTH! Good luck on your flight!

  • Have fun on your trip! There are a few by the same maker that make sophie the giraffe vulli? I think it is, they have some pocket toys that fit into an adult hand in their mini collection. I found them on amazon. GL

  • The only things I can think of that haven't been mentioned are an Etch-a-Sketch or Magnadoodle.  DS loves to draw and we use both in the car because they aren't messy.
