Cloth Diapering

AI2s

I ordered my first from Star Baby Designs. I don't have it yet. But, here's my question.....besides long drying time, is there another down side to them? It seems like the best of both worlds....the look of a fitted and functions similar to a pocket (but you can't really adjust absorbency as much). Am I right?

Re: AI2s

  • AI2's don't generally have long drying time. The soaker snaps out so that it dries faster.

The reason I don't like them is that I feel like they're the worst of both worlds... they're more expensive than prefolds, but not as easy to use for the non-cloth-initiated as pockets and AIOs (since you have to fiddle with changing the insert).

That said, I know a lot of people like them. They can be more cost-effective than pockets/AIOs (because you can reuse the shell) but don't have as much of a learning curve as prefolds. They are also good for in the diaper bag and for traveling, because you can just bring a couple of inserts (reusing the shell), rather than having to bring an entire diaper.

  • Ok, great. Thanks! I see how Flips and Best Bottoms are AI2s but the one I bought from SBD looks like an AIO (from a picture) and am puzzled how it is really an AI2.

  • I do think they are the best of both worlds. I love the prints, and I love that I don't have to cover them. I am not sure what inserts the pp is taking about because they (at least the SBD) don't have any inserts to change. It looks just like a goodmama on the inside but requires no cover.

I plan on buying several more SBD. I have 1 on the way right now, and I cant wait to post an OTB picture!

  • I agree with pp...I think they're the best of both worlds!  We were previously using prefolds and an Econobum cover and now are using Best Bottom Diapers (and I just ordered enough to cover the rest of my stash).  I spent less than I would on pockets or any other type of dipe (except prefolds) and they're sooooo easy to use.  They dry exactly the same as my prefolds and Econobum covers (prefolds/inserts go in the dryer...Econobum and BBD covers air dry).  I like that I can have fewer covers because they're reusable unless poop gets in the leg gussets.

  • I have an SBD AI2 with fleece and it dries really quickly and hers are not that much more expensive and are even cheaper than some pockets out there. So, like ppers said, I think they are great! Cute and waterproof is the best of both worlds :)
