expert lip waxers come in

I had mine waxed last night for the first time. As expected, it hurt like a mutha and then was red for most of the night.

This morning, though, it's still pretty red and splotchy, and a little bumpy. It doesn't itch but feels tight. I look ridiculous, also in part because I forgot mascara today.

Any tips? Is this normal?

Re: expert lip waxers come in

  • Yuck.  I've always waxed at home and have never had that, but a friend of mine had a chemical burn reaction to some last month.  It sounds like what you're describing.  Aloe and time is the only that worked for her.  GL!
  • Mine didn't hurt that much and it was only red for a couple of hours or so.  I also don't have sensitive skin.  :/

Sorry!  I'm not sure if this is typical but it isn't for me!

  • Bah, not what I wanted to hear.

I don't have sensitive skin either, so I have to assume this is either pregnancy-related (isn't skin more sensitive when pregnant?) or I just reacted specifically to this wax.

Oh well - I'm sure it's much more noticeable to me than to anyone else.

  • I have had mine waxed a few times, and the last couple i had reactions like yours, which caused me to stop doing it.  I also felt like, because the strips pull off some skin too, in certain lights I could see (even several days/weeks later) where it had been waxed.

Hopefully yours clears up soon!  I have to say that once it does, you will have a very smooth upper lip, and that's a nice feeling!

And yes, I do think that skin sensitivity can change while pregnant.

Ouch this happened to me once wen I got my eyebrows waxed at a place at Purdue - it hurt really bad!

A lot of things change when you are pregnant so maybe that's why!

Did they use any soothers (gels or that electric thingy) on you when they were done? :/  I'm thinking nobody else will notice!

  • Oh yeah, I agree with Kathy too - I don't think other people will notice!

  • Yeah, she used a soothing gel stuff afterward. I'm positive no one notices as much as I do, so that's reassuring. But still. Annoying!
