Tender grips O2 cannula holders

Does anyone have any tips on dealing with the tender grips that hold the oxygen cannula on baby?  We are having problems with them either not staying on or sticking too tightly.  Many times the top half doesn't stick well but the bottom half sticks so tightly that it pulls her skin when we try to remove it.  I'm also looking for ideas on how to remove the sticky residue from her skin.  Thanks!

  • AllKare adhesive removal pads are awesome, and alcohol free, I would check with your neo/pedi to be sure though, I have only used them on myself (I have sensitive skin that break easily) and not on the boys as they are still in the nicu.  Good luck and HTH!

  • I never took them off - i just let them get loose and fall off.  I would have been ripping tender skin off otherwise.

When one was loose I'd use nexcare tape to tape the cannula back on.

    I hope that helps.

I'm in Colorado too - what city are you in and where did you deliver?  Out of curiosity

  • I found that once they started pulling off I removed them and replaced them.  If they started falling off and it was going to be bath time soon then I would tape them with nexcare tape as well until bath time.  To remove them I always used a cotton pad with some baby oil on it.  This helped get them off easier.  Then I made sure to get the extra residue off with it too.  Just make sure to do a bath or clean the area really good as the oil can make it difficult for another to stick.  As long as I did a bath and cleaned it really good it seemed to be fine for me. Good Luck!
