Eh, I was told that my OBs nurses laugh at crazy birth plans, too. I didn't think anything of it, and probably agreed with them.

The reason that they gave me for 'laughing' is that people who have 13 page birth plans and the need to totally control the situations ARE very likely to end up with c/s or other interventions. The reason? Because they are overall so uptight that they can't relax enough to let the birth process 'just happen'. They can't lose that much control of themselves.

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. The birth plans who are sooo long with things that just aren't feasible to avoid sometimes. I also work in a high-risk center so some of these people with birth plans have other issues that intervene with the possibility of it working. Some birth plans, I can respect because they aren't totally over the top like most I see.

  • If c-section rates weren't so high people wouldn't have to be so meticulous about what they put in them! I'd love to go in and say "I want it to be as natural as possible" and believe they wouldn't start unnecessary interventions, but medical staff tend to push the interventions with the notion that they're all medically necessary. I don't really trust OB's to do what's best for me/baby.

  • My sil delivered both of her babies there and had great experiences both times. I am curious for her to watch the show and see if she had any of the nurses they show.

I am also pretty sure that the nurses were told to play it up for the cameras. It's a 'reality' show, FFS.

Haha - I just realized this post was about a TV show.

It's not as if nurses are the only 'unprofessional' ones. Teachers b^tch about parents in the staff room, sales people moan about their clients stupidity, lawyers complain about their clients... I don't see how it's any different

This . If you are all so offended by what Marce said you wouldn't want to hang out in the welfare office staff lunchroom! It's a coping mechanism, it's even normal and healthy...everyone who works with people in any capacity does it, even if it's only in their head. And anyone who says they don't is lying.

I agree with this too. Give me a freaking break, I can't imagine anyone can actually say they don't complain or *** about either the people they work with or the customers they work with. I am sure the nurses *** about over the top birth plans just like teachers *** about over the top parents.
