since i've seen several posts about us all following the widmer trial- thought i'd post that Jennifer Crew, long awaited mystery witness, is on the stand right now!
travis is awesome- we love him too! i know i'm obviously biased but his personality is half the reason i think so many people log on each day to follow along. it's funny because he's SO quiet normally. we always chatted back and forth casually at work but i'd never really noticed the dry sense of humor he has until he started blogging way back at the first trial. LOVE it. meanwhile- so funny that she worked at jcrew and that she's studying chemical dependency!!!
Can someone explain the whole point of the live blog to me? Is it just because people are too impatient to wait for the transcripts?
Yes. That and I feel like it gives way more information than the newscasts do. I love criminal proceedings, I find them fascinating.
I guess I can see that.
I admit that it's impossible for me to be objective about it. The days I spent in court for our case were the worst days of my life. It was embarrassing enough in front of a court room full of strangers. The thought someone blogging about it on the Internet for anyone to comment on makes me want to vomit. To feel that raw and exposed isn't a feeling I'd wish on anyone.
The blogger seems fair and impartial but some of those people making the inane comments and questions...I had to stop reading it. The judge keeps cameras out for a reason and I wonder if this type of reporting format will prevent people from testifying in the future. KWIM?
Not in any way trying to discount your feelings or statement because I can never say I know how you feel or what it was like to be going through what your family did and I'm sure still is...but just to correct one thing- the judge does not keep cameras from the courtroom. In fact, Dateline came in a week prior to the trial to set up their three robotic cameras, 48 hours has been here, CourtTV and Access Hollywood. All have had access to video of trial proceedings in real time. The blogging isn't instead of the cameras, it's in addition to them. The easy explanation is basically that it's hard to sum up an entire day of trial proceedings in a one minute long TV story, so that's why the blog is so appealing- like others said, it gives more information than just the headine.
FWIW, we don't ID victims of sex abuse crimes and we don't EVER ID minors, so there would never be a chance in hell that we'd blog from something like what you're speaking of. Honestly the other other case we've done is the Anthony Kirkland murder trial and at this point, I don't see it becoming any type of new trend or anything like that-- for our station at least.
And Krista- no news yet but I've been frequenting more often haha.

Thanks for the info. It's nice to hear from the "other side" for once. Just to be clear, my issue isn't with the blogger or blog itself. I just resent the fact that it makes it so much easier for people to hide behind their computers while commenting (aka judging) on the lives of others.
I don't know that Jennifer Crew lady and maybe she is as shady as everyone assumes, but I can sympathize with how it feels to be unwittingly exposed to this type of scrutiny. I just feel that this particular format makes it a lot easier for people then say, watching a days worth of video footage or reading an entire transcript.
It's scary when you realize how many people actually believe everything they read online. Heck, if you were to judge me based on the anonymous comments left on all of my H's news stories you'd assume I was a self-centered beyotch who manipulated my own kid to make up lies in order to get out of my marriage. Fortunately, they may have got the beyotch part right, but I had DNA evidence to prove the rest of it.
Re: widmer mystery witness on the stand
Can I just say how much I
Travis?
LMFAO at "worked for J. Crew, oddly enough."
If it wouldn't get me fired, I'd do nothing but read the blog all freaking day.

A more accurate report of what the news will later turn into a good headline.
