2nd Trimester

measuring BIG.!

Has anyone else experienced measuring quite a bit bigger (at 26 weeks my belly was measuring 32..this is my first baby) than where you are at in your pregnancy? Wondering if moms on here think thats very normal or if there's a good chance my date is off.

My doc is sending me in for another ultrasound next week to check things out. I have YET to meet a person that doesn't say "there's NO way they have your date correct" or "are you SURE there aren't two babies in there?"

Re: measuring BIG.!

  • I work with a girl who is also measuring big and just had another ultrasound the other day to get it checked out and turns out she has too much amniotic fluid. We all thought her due date was off too!

  • Just curious to see how they are measuring. When I go in the Dr. presses down for the uterus and says, "yup, feels right"

  • With my first, I was measuring 5 weeks ahead, starting around week 27.  I was diagnosed with Polyhydramnios - too much amniotic fluid.

This can restrict the growth of the baby, or can cause no problems at all.  It just means you have to be consistently monitored with ultrasounds, and towards the end of your pregnancy, non-stress tests, to make sure baby is still growing fine and not experiencing any distress.

I'm sure you will have more answers after your ultrasound - good luck!

  • lurking in from 1st tri...I was measuring pretty big during my first pregnancy.  Turned out I had fibroids.  Long story short, everything ended up fine.  GL with the rest of your pregnacy.

Mine did that up until my last appointment (at 16 weeks). Then they got out the measuring tape and measured from around the pubic bone to my belly button - since that's where my uterus comes up to now. Not sure what's considered standard, though.

  • I'm happy to see this topic.  I am 22 weeks pregnant and just now got measured for the first time. I just switched from Kaiser to a PPO, so I had to see my new OB.  Anyway, I measured at 25 cm.  I didn't know what to ask the doctor since I had never been measured before and didn't really know what this measurement meant.  Now I know.  She didn't render any opinion in any case so don't know if there's any cause for alarm.

  • Yep. With DD I was 34 weeks measuring 40. And every week It stayed about 5-6 weeks bigger. They did an ultrasound to make sure she wasn't going to be gigantic, or that maybe they had missed a sibling...haha! But when we went in, DD was in the 60th percintile, and they just blamed it on fluid, and me being really short, and my belly having no where to really go but up and out. So I was just huge. At 20 weeks with this one, I already feel like I am going to be huge again!!
