Probably a silly question for you veterans, but we are just starting on solids and I am trying to figure this all out. My 6.5 month old daughter does not really enjoy rice cereal or oatmeal on their own--we've tried for several weeks but to no avail. At pedi's recommendation, we started veggies this week and she LOVES them so far. But the doctor wants us to continue trying cereals.
Last night I made the oatmeal separately (with formula) and then mixed in a bit of butternut squash (the veggie that she is currently eating). She still didn't really enjoy it much, even though she loves the squash. I think it was too runny maybe--she likes how thick the squash is! Any tips on still getting in cereals/sneaking them into your little one's diets?? Thanks in advance!! Really appreciate your help!
Re: How do you make cereal/oatmeal with puree?
I do squash plus dry oatmeal, mix, if it's too thick for LO i'll thin it out with some formula (especially in the begining). You could start with a little of the cereal (rice, oatmeal, wheat, barley, etc, whatever), and then mix in the puree until you get the consistency you want.
I make my own too, so here's my routine for two babies:
-Boil small amount of water in the microwave for 1 minute
-Spoon 1-2T ground oats in a baby bowl (I use a food processor to make it into a powder)
-Mix and let sit for a few minutes to thicken
-Meanwhile, defrost 2-3 cubes of whatever in another baby bowl
-Combine and use extra bowl for another 1-2 cubes of something else for variety
-Enjoy!
