I had my Mirena removed on Friday afternoon. A few hours later, I realized how much it has been affecting me, and not just the libido issues.
I almost immediately felt a heavyness in my abdomen disappear. I tried to describe it to DH and he related it to having a popcorn kernal shell stuck in the back of your throat. It feels like a marble when it's in there & you cannot ignore it, but when you finally cough it out, you see it's no bigger than your infants fingernail.
The water I was retaining for no apparent reason is now obvious. In 3 days I've lost 4lbs and now my "non-bloat day" jeans are falling off so inches have been shed as well.
Emotionally, I feel much more like myself. I've been a known "cryer" since I was a child. I'm emotionally connected & charged and am not afraid to let the water works flow. In the last year, I haven't really cried. A year with no tears. For a cryer, that's a problem.
The libido is slowly making an appearence. I think that once my BCP's level out, I should be back to my normal.
Something interesting the OB noted. She was surprised about my claim to lack of libido & my desire for BCP's as a remedy to pregnancy prevention in the interm. She said that there have been numerous clinical studies that document a significant decrease in sex drive as a result of BCP's, varying brands. Which I totally believe, but isn't the case for me. She was surprised to hear that amongst those in my circle (you guys), there were more than 3 of us who experienced libido issues that we connected with the Mirena, who also experienced a change after removal. I suggested that she start asking her patients specifically about libido and Mirena, and bet that she'd find a connection similar to mine.
I thought her surprise to be surprising because decrease in sex drive is one of the side affects listed in the Mirena pamphlet, although it's not listed as one of the common ones.
Re: Dear Mirena, Go suck it!
Another big fat SUCK IT MIRENA here. You know I hated that thing. Made me fat and crazy.
Glad yours is gone!!!
I am SO glad you are feeling better. I was shocked how much changed for me too.
I think getting the Mirena out and switching to the Paraguard for me was the best choice.
