Babies: 6 - 9 Months

what size is your 8 month old in?

my DS is in 18 month clothes and he just hit 8 months yesterday.  i noticed the other day some of the clothes i have (mostly carters) are starting to get snug around his belly.

i remember that huge argument when we were in the tris about clothing size. i guess someone had found a 'its my first' outfit that was 24 months, and she couldnt figure out why.  something about obese babies or something.   my DS is far from obese and we are looking at 24 month clothes at 8 months old.  or should i be worried?

Re: what size is your 8 month old in?

  • My DD is still in some 3-6 month clothes! She's mainly in 6-9 months but that's as high as it goes. She's still SO tiny - maybe weighs 13 1/2 lbs and 25 inches long. I swear she's eating like a pig! Just growing slow. Smile

  • My son is in 9-12 for clothes but fits comfortably in 18 mos for onesies.  There are a lot of different reasons why a kid needs bigger clothes - whether it's height or where their weight is distributed.  When weight is concerned, I figure, if my dr. isn't concerned, then I'm not.
  • 18 months (even bigger for certain onesies).

    DS1 was in 12mo and I thought that was huge at the time.

    Don't worry, it all evens out.  DS1 stayed in 24mo/2T forever and he is 4 and in 4T.

     Oh good!  I thought I was the only one still well in 6-9!

  • 12-18 months for pants or one-piece outfits

    6-12 for tops but they're getting short in the arms- he's very long and somewhat skinny, so the 12-18 tops look a little blousy on him.

  • My DS will be 8 months on 02/11 but he is still in 3-6 and some 6-9 are just starting to fit him. He's so skinny but weighs probably 18lbs. I don't know where he's putting the weight at lol.

  • DD can still fit a few of her 6-month clothes, but she has started wearing 6-9 month and some 9-month outfits.

  • It all depends on the baby. My 7 mo is not even 17 lbs naked,  but I've put her in her sister's 18 mo shirts and 12 month pants. She is really long and 9 month clothes look like 3/4 length sleeves on her. She can wear children's place 12 month fleece sleepers. Her sister was always in whichever month clothes or smaller for whatever her age was. She is 2 1/2 and just got in 2T clothes and it is b/c of the length again. She could wear 18 months pants in the waist. Just depends. I can't imagine if this continues they'll wear the same size by summer.
  • DS2 is only 5 lbs. smaller than DS1 who is in 24 months. He isn't obese just really tall and healthy:) He can wear 12 month shirts/onesies (snuggly) but he is 18 month everything else.

  • DD has been wearing 18m clothing for over a month now.  She's also in size 5 diapers.  She's not "obese" just on the top of the charts for weight and height {just like my DS who is a skinny minny now!}

  • DD is currently in 6-9, but a lot of those items are starting to get a little snug, we're slowly moving on to 9-12/12 clothing now.  Some brands run different too.  I have one 6-9 outfit that is still HUGE on her and one that I went to put it on her and lo and behold she outgrew it already and I didn't even realize it.  Stupid brands :oP  DD is 20.5 lbs and almost 29 inches, but her height is in her legs mainly.  She actually still fits into some 3-6 onesies because they fit her torso.  She has a pudgy little belly, and chunky lil thighs and legs.  She has a pair of pjs from Gerber that are 18 months.  They're a bit  big on her but because they're for 20-24 lbs and 30-33 inches.  so she's a bit short for them but is the right weight.  Gerber usually runs small anyway.  Man I kinda rambled on here haha :)
