WWYD?

I need to get my 17 month old on a normal nap schedule. At the moment she wakes up early (like 5am) and can go back to sleep 2 hours later for 1/2-3 hours. If she sleeps 2 hours she will not take an afternoon nap and she gets tired even earlier than the norm. And there is no way she can go to bed earlier than she already does( between 5:30-6)

Should I wake her after 30 minutes in the morning and see how that goes or let her sleep and deal with the afternoon tiredness?

How do I fix this?

Re: WWYD?

  • Is there a reason for her to be up so early (i.e. work schedule). If not I would probably try slowly pushing her nap and bedtime back until she naps a little later in the day and goes to bed. In my experience waking from naps isn't a good idea. The only time I wake DD is if she takes a very long afternoon nap so that it doesn't interfere with bedtime. Otherwise I figure she is just needing a little extra Zs.

  • I would put her to bed later in the evening (if that is an option). My son is 16 months old, goes to bed at 8:30p wakes up between 7:00a - 8:30a the next morning. Goes down for his afternoon nap at Noon or a little after and sleeps until about 3:00p - 4:00p or sometimes shorter. He will then be good for the rest of the evening until his bedtime.

  • Have you tried making bedtime later? Before 6 seems SO early to me. DD goes to bed around 8 and sleeps until about 8.

  • She wakes up on her own that early. Has always been an early riser.
