TTC After a Loss

F2F meeting was a huge success!

It was fantastic. There were only three of us, but it was so wonderful to sit down in person with two other women who have experienced a loss. We talked about a little bit of everything, we cried together, we laughed together, and left as friends bonded for life. We got so lost in each other that 2 whole hours went by before we had even thought about the time. I find it so heartwarming that I can consider these two women as instant IRL friends. I highly suggest that if any of you have this opportunity to either be a group leader or at least attend, DO IT. I haven't felt that good talking about it, until today. It was even better than my therapy sessions. They "get it". They cried for me when I couldn't even find the tears. I cried for them. I could go on all night about this, but it is already so late and DH gave me my birthday present today instead of making me wait until Sunday and I really want to play with it for a bit before bed! He got me a Kindle! I love it and it is such a great gift!

  • Yay! So glad it went well! I want more details though...feel free to answer tomorrow or whenever, Kindles are awesome so I get why you want to go play.

Where did you go? What did you do? Did you just start chatting or did you have a specific topic or activity? Are you meeting once a month or just whenever?

So glad it went well! I can't wait to get a group going, but so far no one is in mine!

  • I'm glad it went well.  Hospice has a group in my area that I want to attend.  Unfortunatly my work schedule conflicts with it.

Ok, I am still here! :) Playing at the same time on the Kindle, so forgive me if this doesn't make sense!

We went to Starbucks and sat at a table together and just sat with our drinks and talked. It was a little awkward at first, trying to figure out what to say and things, but we had each read (or at least skimmed each others blogs) so that helped with details and basic story information. I just started by asking how they were and it went from there. We decided to keep it very informal for the first few times, no topics or specifics until we all get to know each other better. We thought then we would start choosing specific topics to discuss. We didn't even have time to discuss how often meetings should be, we will email and discuss all of that. Right now I can honestly say that I want to meet every week! All though I know that isn't practical! :) I loved it, have I mentioned that yet?

Ginger, give it some time, they will find you and you will have your group. I was pretty frustrated the first two days when there was nobody and I thought it would just be me. But once people start finding you and then through word of mouth, we will both have groups bigger than we know what to do with. We know these women are out there and that this is very much needed, so we will have to work to find them and get things up and running! your facebook page looks great! I "liked" it to try and help it get seen by more women!

Good luck! If you have any further questions or want to get ahold of me a little more quickly feel free to email me (any of you, I don't mind sharing it at all) my email for the group is stillhaveareasontosing@live.com I had to put it on the facebook page, so it is out there on the net anyhow, so it isn't a big deal! :)

  • That sounds really great I'll have to see if I hear about one coming up because I would love to attend one in MI.  It probably makes such a difference to talk to those who truly "get it".  Have a great b-day :)

  • Thanks for the update.  I wasn't planning to look for a group, but now I might- it does sound nice to be able to talk to people IRL who can relate.

  • I'm glad it went well for you!  I don't know anything about how to connect with people, etc.  Can you provide some insight - how do I find others in my area?

    Thanks!
