What are yalls thoughts on these?
I thought they were overkill, but I just found out that a high school friend's baby died this week from SIDS. So of course I'm sick thinking about it. She's a smart mom, I haven't talked to her, but I'm sure she followed all the general precautions that we had planned to take. (I don't know why it shocked me so much. I know it happens, I just assumed a lot of those people were still doing a lot of things "wrong" which is horrible of me to have thought!)
Now I'm thinking for peace of mind one of these might be worth the investment!
Are yall considering it? Why or why not?
Re: Angelcare movement monitors?
We used one with DS. He was a tummy sleeper - wouldn't sleep any other way and it really gave me peace of mind. I recommend it. We plan to use it for this baby and I also want to get a video monitor.

I'm not considering the Angelcare monitor but I am considering the Snuza. It detects movement and is travel friendly.

I don't think it would prevent SIDS in all cases, but basically if the baby stops all movement (IE, breathing), the monitor picks it up and goes off.
Just searching around for it online I came across quite a few stories of parents (including someone on the bump!) who said theirs went off, and they found their baby nonresponsive and were able to revive them. If the baby had gone for a long time, instead of 20 seconds, without breathing it could have been much worse.
We had two - one for each crib with our twins and they were worth it for the peace of mind. My girls were 5.5 weeks preemie and we had them sleeping in their cribs immediately for nighttime and naps. I slept so much better knowing that if they stopped breathing, those monitors would go off. The only time ours went off is if they rolled too far away from the sensor.
We did turn off the motion detector when they were about 10 months old because they both took to rolling to the far ends of their cribs to sleep and the darn things were constantly going off and driving us crazy.
If anything they helped me sleep better, which is invaluable in those first few months.
No, you can't use it in a bassinet. You actually have to go to home depot and buy a wooden plank to put on the bottom of the crib, then put the sensor on it, then put the mattress on top of that to make sure the sensor is level (those are actual instructions that come with the monitor for proper use). So you can't use it with a bassinet.
