Baby not moving a lot?

I know I have a anterior placenta, and it actually took a while before I started feeling he baby's movements, but I wonder if he's not moving ''enough''... I hear from so many pregnant women that their baby is super active. I feel my baby few times a day, that's it. I don't particularly feel him more after a meal, when I sit down during evening or after I drink a lot of liquid. Is anyone in this situation? Should I be worried that my baby isn't moving enough?

  • I will be 27 wks tmrw, and I have felt LO roughly 2-4 times per day for the last 3 weeks. I'm not going to worry unless my OB thinks there's an issue. I don't have anterior placenta either, if that helps.

  • Similar to @TallAsh I only feel baby when at rest usually at night or in the morning. I also have an anterior placenta and only really feel movement on the sides of my belly. I'm doing kick counts now to make me feel better but I've felt movement all day. Also my midwife mentioned that as the baby grows the movement gets more subtle because they have less room to move. But as always call your doc or midwife if you are worried.

  • @snow527 my doctor doesn't do kick counts. She said you should be familiar with babies movement and if you haven't noticed in a while then try to get baby to move with orange juice, if I couldn't then to call.

  • I am getting more elbows than kicks!
My OB didnt mention anything about kick counts- and well i really don't want to do them it will just drive my anxiety through the roof.
I pretty much know her pattern now during the day of sleep/wake and if i dont feel the jabs at those times i will drink some juice and go from there.

  • My OB didn't mention counting kicks at my 27 week appointment.  I go back at 30 weeks and I will ask if she doesn't bring it up.  I feel my baby more often than a few weeks ago, however she is more active some days than others.

  • With this pregnancy and my last one. I really need to pay attention then I feel movement. When I am busy I am not really conscious of the movement. If I feel like I haven't felt movement all day or haven't noticed I try to lay down for little while then I will feel some movement.

  • Im 28 weeks now and the movements have changed for me as well. Before I felt the kicks. Now she's definitely more squished like pp said.
  • I have a midwife. She said at my last appointment - 28w5d - that I need to count kicks daily. I am supposed to get 10 in an hour as well. If I don't, lay down, drink cold water, have some sugar. If I don't get them in the next hour, call. She also said that by now you'll learn your baby's pattern. For example, I notice lots of movement in the morning when I first wake up and when I am relaxing before bed. If during those times, I don't get enough kicks, call, because that's considered decreased movement.

I had an appointment with my midwife last week and she didn't ask about the baby movements, nor did she ask me to count kicks. I usually feel the baby more when I go to bed and when I wake up (still laying in bed). I wanted to ask before I get too worried and call my midwife, because I haven't feel that kicks have lessen, I just don't feel a lot of movements...

Maybe I'll just go lay down now so I can reassure myself I feel the baby kicks!

  • I'm with you too! I'm almost 26 weeks & sometimes little lady kicks all day long & others I barely feel her! I worry too but sometimes I think perhaps shes just changed position.
Sometimes I feel her at the front of my tummy all the time then....,next day, nothing at the front!
It's so worrying! I don't ever remember being like this when pregnant with DS!!

I am 26 w with an anterior placenta and only feel like 10-20 kicks a day. I only feel them sitting or laying down. I asked my OB and he said I should feel them after meals and should start to feel more soon.

It does worry me but I think as long as you feel something every day.

  • The only times I've been asked/told to do kick counts (really, feeling for any movement) was when I was getting a NST due to age/being overdue.

My OBs don't think they should be done unless there is a worry about LO.
  • I just wanted to say that I totally understand how unsettling it is to read about how much others' babies are moving when your babe moves infrequently. When I was pregnant with DS, there were really only two times a day that I could successfully do kick counts (in the hour following breakfast and the hour following dinner). Otherwise, I really didn't feel him most of the rest of the day. I asked the OB about it a few times and it seemed that this was just the baby's pattern. (And he was/is completely healthy, this was just an early indication of personality, I think! He's now a really calm kid who observes everything very carefully before he participates.)

I bought a fetal doppler at the beginning of this pregnancy because I remembered how my imagination would run wild last time when I read about how other babies were kicking and wiggling all day and night. I've barely used it this time, though, since I now have one of those constant movers.
  • I don't have a lot of movement either. There will be days when he's wiggling like a crazy man, but most of the time he's very chill! My OB doesn't do kick counts, but just says I should watch to be sure I'm feeling at least some movement each day. Even on days when he's quiet, I'll get little kicks and flutters here and there.

This. I actually had it happen this week that the babies weren't moving like they usually did. I drank hot chocolate which normally makes them kick like crazy and nothing. L&D had me go in to be monitored and everything was fine. Knowing what's normal for your baby is probably the most important thing.

  • My doctor is not really concerned with counting kicks but more that you are feeling some type of movement during a day. Some babies (like my son) sleep a ton. I rarely felt him during the day but he would kick and move a lot in the middle of the night while I slept. I didn't read all of the responses, but I'm sure many people mentioned, if you haven't felt any movement in awhile and are worried, drink a glass of OJ and then lay on your side in a quiet place for an hour. You should definitely be able to feel some type of movement during that time. Also, the further along you get, you may feel less "kicking." Movement feels different later on. With my son, I would just feel his butt pressed into my side.
