What's your favorite type of favor to receive at a shower?

I'm very much in the "I hate tchotchkes" camp, and so I don't want to spend money on anything that people will just toss. I like useful things, so that's what I tend to want to give. But I know that "useful" is a very widely interpreted word.

Which leads me back to the idea of food/candy. But that's not too original... (I'm probably overthinking things, huh?)

For the record, this is for a baby shower. First time mama, and the sex of the baby is unknown.

Just wondering what you may have received that you really liked getting? TIA!

  • Cookies are always a hit.  My MIL did cookies from Cookies by Design for my shower.

  • How would you feel about receiving a nicely-packaged rice krispy treat? The mama-to-be is allergic to dairy, and I'd like it to be something that she can eat.

Mainly because when we hosted her bridal shower, we did cookies as favors. They were super-cute and all the guests loved them, but she was disappointed that she couldn't try them.

I guess I could just try to find someone to make them with shortening instead of butter...or maybe just do it myself. I was trying to avoid it, but it might be the best option!

Cookies, rice krispy treats, candy, or any other edible is always my favorite.  It usually gets eaten in the car on the way home from the shower (yep...), and I'm always appreciative of something that is NOT a mini candle, bottle of lotion, potpourri satchel, etc.

I think you have the right idea!

  • I like the rice crispy treat idea...I would definitely enjoy eating that.

Another idea that I've seen was a bag of microwave pop corn with a personalized wrapper that said something like "_________'s about to POP!" with the due date and a clip art that matched the shower theme.

  • My FAVORITE by far was...

Am amazing sugar cookie in the shape of a jungle animal in celophane tied with the same shape cookie cutter and a tag with the recipe (which I have used the recipe a million times because it is the best sugar cookie recipe ever...and I LOST it.  I have to email her for it again...grrr).

The theme of the shower was safari.

SOOOO thoughtful, and I have used it so much and get compliments every time I have used the recipe and the cutter is super cute.
