Do yourself a favor, don't...

watch too many episodes of Baby Story on TLC, especially not in a row.  I watched an episode of a natural birth, and starting having sympathy anxiety for the woman in labor.  All I have to say, is it kind of makes me scared ****less.  And of course, I cried when the lady finally gave her last push for her little girl.  I was all ready to watch another episode airing right after, but realized I probably had enough for one day.

  • I watched that just now also. i will say, that she wasn't helping herself at all by getting riled up and crying (I had a meds-free birth with DS). That's the worst thing you can do, since it jacks up your breathing.

Her husband was acting like a douche at the beginning. I love it when the MEN are saying "no epidurals!". Easy to say when you just stand by the bed....

I was really shocked that she held out so long because her husband didn't want the epidural-last time I checked he wasn't the one pushing.

A lot of women tend to think that they have "failed" if you set out for a natural birth, but then need or want the meds, so they resist using them. Sometimes though (like in this woman's case) you just need a break and sometimes the epidural will help with that.

  • I got so obsessed with watching births on Baby Story during my first pregnancy I took it too far... I watched them on YouTube!  Yes, they show real, live, natural births of real people on YouTube.  I know, I am gross.

  • Yeah i don't watch that show usually, but if my H thought he could say no drugs i'd kill him. Pretty sure I'm on the wagon of shoot me up w/meds. Having a baby freaks me out (very excited) but w/other who are scared ****less. For some reason the meds help calm my nerves. It'll be interesting to see how things go down when it is delivery day.
