My son wont poop on potty and he makes himself constipated

My son is 2 1/2 and is doing great w the peeing but has always had pooping issues. He has been on Miralx since he was 1 1/2 and has recently not had to use it(4 mos since last dose) but since we started potty trainig he holds his poop to the point of constipating himself and ive had to give him miralax twice in the past wk. IDK what to do?!? I want him to get potty trained but not at the expense of going through the ordeal we have w his constipation....anyone else been through this or have some advice?

DD is dry 95% of the time and she has refused to poop in the potty until tonight! She has been holding it for 2 days at a time (normally goes everyday) because she does not want to go in her pull up. But I am not putting her in underwear until she is pooping in the potty. It has been like this for a good month now. I asked her pedi about her pooping on the potty and he said for most children pooping takes awhile and to go at thier own pace. That being said when dd did go tonight poor thing was crying because it hurt so hard to come out because she has been holding it for 2 days

Thanks for the advice ladies i think im gonna try putting him on the potty in a diaper and see how that works...

Had the same problem with my son! Just patience and practice! We always sat him on the potty to go poop but he wouldnt, just hopped right off and as soon as he had a pull up on he was pooping. One day we sat him on the potty to pee and we would sit in there and mimmick the pooping process while he was sitting there and eventually he pooped for us...the praise was enough to keep him going poop on the potty. Just keep trying and even if you have to continue your sons meds to soften until he poops on the potty and he sees how happy it makes you, he'll probably stop holding it and continue going on the pot...our babies only want to see us happy!
