CDing a Chunk-Monk?

DS is a little chubby (or so I'm told by e.ve.ry.one!). When I CD him, he seems to have trouble sitting and fusses. He has his 9mo WB visit on Friday so I'd have to guess his weight...low to mid 20s?? Siggy pic is pretty recent if it helps. There's no way he's too chunky for CDs...right? Do you think I'm doing something wrong?

Re: CDing a Chunk-Monk?

  • Cason is probably 20ish lbs now. There are some cd's he has trouble sitting in but I find if I use hemp or bamboo inserts (making it less bulky) helps. With MF inserts he has trouble sitting and crawling. Im guessing it depends on the fit of the diaper too. Swadlebees and fuzzibunz and thirsties fit Cason well but BG's make him have trouble sitting. He has thunder thighs though.

  • My son is super chunky.  He is a few days over 3 months and already >18 pounds.  (The pedi even pseudo accused me of supplementing with formula!)  We started out in pockets and once he started sitting I noticed what you are talking about.  Then we started using fitteds and wool and I forgot about it.  Then over te weekend we were at my ILs and he was in a pocket and I noticed it again big time.  I think it's more noticeable in PUL dipes because the material doesn't "give" like real fabric.

  • My DS is 5 months old and 19 lbs.  He doesn't seem to have problems sitting, but he doesn't grab his feet like a lot of (disposable-diapered) babies do, and he hasn't rolled back-to-belly yet.  I'm sure he will figure it all out eventually :)

  • Hmmm...it sounds like I'm not crazy - that's good. It also sounds like I have some CD purchases to make. Ugh. DH is gonna kill me.  Thank you for the brand and fabric recs.  We were just doing Ecobumz until I decided if CDing is right for us (it's right for me but talking DH and DCP into it has been an uphill battle).  Perhaps I've invested in the wrong brand/style.

    Thanks so much!!!

  • My LO was like that in certain diapers (and is quite a chunk, ~22lbs at 6mos).  My stash is all Fuzzi Bunz perfect size and Bum Genius sized AIOs.  Because the diapers are sized, rather than one size, they're less bulky and he seems very comfortable in them.
  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

try softbums...they are very soft and have a lot of give. very comfy!

also, check out brightstarbaby.com (the fishnoodles)...he'd probably need a size L, b is in a medium and i feel he could almost go L.

of course, these 2 are a little pricier, but stretchy and awesome. i think they would work well for you. buy one of each to try if you can. also, the softbums is adjustable to exactly the fit you need. it has a snap in pod. (fishnoodles has a snap in soaker).
