if you have a crane cool mist humidifier

how do you clean it? we have two: one for our bedroom, and one for the living room. the one in our bedroom runs and is cleaned all the time, especially with riley being sick lately. the living room one.... not so much. we haven't really used it since she had bronchitis. we get this gross pink mold around here if things sit for too long, and our frog humidifier now has it inside it :/ how do you clean it? i don't want to use anything that shouldn't later get into the air and be breathed in, but i don't want to throw it out either!! any ideas?

  • We have one but haven't given it a good cleaning yet.   I think I remember reading that you are supposed to clean it with vinegar and water.

  • Use and old bottle brush?  Maybe swish some 409 and really hot water around in it?  Or you could probably run the top plastic part through the dishwasher?  Or maybe not...

  • SInce I haven't cleaned mine either... it got me thinking.

I got this from the crane website:

    - CLEAN WATER TANK: After each use, it is recommended, to empty water tank.  Fill water tank with fresh water add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or bleach to water.  Place cap on water tank.  Let water tank stand several minutes then shake vigorously holding the sides with both hands.  Empty and rinse again to eliminate any white vinegar or bleach smell.  Refill with fresh water when ready to use.

    - CLEAN WATER BASIN: Wipe water basin with soft cloth dampened with white vinegar and water solution.  Rinse the water basin with cool water to remove any vinegar smell. NEVER IMMERSE WATER BASIN IN WATER.

    - CLEAN EXTERIOR: Wipe all exteriors surfaces of the base with a soft dry cloth.  DO NOT immerse the base in water. An electric shock may result or humidifier may be

  • Are you using distilled water or tap? I find that I don't get the moldy stuff with the distilled.
