Hi all!
We plan to keep our name ideas a secret until the kiddo gets here, and I've got quite a while to go yet (due in July!) but I wanted to get your opinion on this.
My 2 year old daughter's name is Alexa, but we call her Lexi about 99% of the time (except for my FIL, who always calls her Alexa). We REALLY love the name Alexander for a boy, and would call him Alex. Would it be ridiculous to have Lexi and Alex? We are probably done after 2 kids or else would have to do Alexis or something, haha, j/k
I love the name Alexander more than any other name on our list but I pretty much eliminated it at first because I thought it would be crazy to have Alexa and Alexander. My mom and I were talking and she was telling me it wouldn't be that bad since it would be Lexi and Alex...but I'm not sure! What do you think?
Re: Would this be ridiculous?
I wouldn't do it.
ETA: Let me rephrase: yes, it would be ridiculous.

I can't remember how many letters of the first and last names Social Security uses, but that might cause them problems too.
Plus, at least one person already calls her Alexa, so it's going to lead to confusion with family/friends.
PAL/PGAL Welcome
Darn it! I thought it might be. I had taken it completely off the list but when my mom was encouraging it, I got a little excited, haha!
Thanks! Back to the drawing board! Or maybe it'll be a girl
I would sideye that name choice, just as I did for the family with a Dennis and a Denise.
this & this. I think you would regret it.

Agree! She also may want to have the option to go by Alex when she gets older (pre-teen, teen years) ..
NMS, but maybe Xander?
I wouldn't do it.
It wouldn't bother me if the names had different roots (like Leopold and Leonor, which are two I'd consider using together) but with Alexander and Alexa having the same root, I find it to be more redundant than just repetitive... if that makes sense? I find sisters named Elizabeth and Isabel to be redundant as well, even though they don't really repeat anything.
If you really love it, go for it... Alexander is a good name. I personally wouldn't use it, but it isn't the end of the world.
So what happens when Lexi is old enough to decide what SHE wants to be called, and she insists on going by Alexa or even worse - Alex?
Are you going to force her brother to go by Xander?
Don't do it.

Well my DS has the exact same name as my DH who has the exact same name as my FIL. So I wouldn't worry that they are too similar.
They will have different birth dates anyways.
Too similar, unless you're George Foreman.
I know non twin sibs named Terry and Terrence. Good times.
This. And honestly, it does seem a bit ridiculous, even if you only have two children.
too similar, sorry.
Sort of like me wanting to do Ansley and Anthony, except in your case it's almost a little worse.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
