RingWorm????

So I believe I may have contracted the ringworm. At first I thought it was from my bra being too tight but I felt it and it feels just like one. I'm going to call my midwife now, but anyone ever experienced this before? I don't have any pets, but I am around alot children. (Not working with them, just family and friend wise.)

Re: RingWorm????

  • Yep.

I adopted two kittens that turned out to be covered in it.  If you don't already know it isn't a parasite (a worm) but a fungus akin to athletes foot.

You just grab a bottle of lotriman and try not to itch it and you'll be good in no time.

It is contagious so you'll want to avoid rubbing the affected areas on people and don't share towels or washcloths.  Apparently you can check to see if it is ringworm if you have a blacklight (thats what our vet did. The affected areas glowed).

No big deal, I don't think...unless Lotramin is not ok for pregnant women...hmmm.

  • It's really not a big deal- and you can get it anywhere!! Just put some Lotramin on it...I'm sure it's okay for preggers- but maybe check?

  • I got ringworm when i was 19. it's embarassing but not horrible. Just use an anti-fungal cream and make sure you don't touch animals or other people with the infected area. Mine was on both of my arms and my hands so I was forced to wear elbow length opera gloves out for a week or two lol.

  • There are a lot of things that look superficially like ringworm but aren't.  So I'd get it checked out by a doctor if it doesn't go away soon.

Lotrimin (topical clotrimazole) is category B.  It's the same medication as yeast infection meds.  So you should be safe to try it out.

  • That doesn't really sound like ringworm...because I can't imagine how you would've gotten it on your bra line? Ringworm is only contracted by contact with the spores. It's also really easy to identify - it is always a circular rash, nothing else. Hence the "ring." Is that what you're seeing, and have the kids you've been around had this? If not, it could just be eczema.

Ring worm, like pp said, is just a fungus like athlete's foot and any antifungal cream will clear it up - but check with your OB on what's safe.

I got a small patch on my arm from a poor sick kitty I adopted about a year ago. Went away with the Lotrimin, no problem.

I had ringworm once that started out in that area.  No idea how I got it.

This this this!  I've had eczema my entire life, but after going on heavy doses of prednisone for ITP when I was 15 it wiped out my eczema.  I didn't have itchy skin at all until 2 years ago.  I'm not sure what triggered it but I had a spot on my foot that I thought was ring worm (I'd never had ring worm and I'd never had eczema on my hands or feet).  To make a long story short after using otc anti-fungal creams and sprays it ended up getting infected.  My dermatologist thinks that it was actually my eczema (which looks a lot like ring worm sometimes!) and it had just gotten irritated by the creams and infected.  I went on a round of antibiotics and they knocked it out (actually it was so nasty they gave me a tetnus shot too!!!  scary!)  Don't wait too long like I did if it doesn't go away-

  • I had ringworm once upon a time ago - if it turns out that's what you have be sure to keep applying the ointment past the mark and after it looks like it has gone away. I think they say to keep applying a week or so after symptoms have passed? I didn't and it came back - more annoying than anything else.
  • Thanks ladies,  I have no clue how it got there. But I have a doctor's appointment soon. I'll just slap a band-aid on it until then. I've had it before (long long time ago) and it just felt like the ringworm.

p.s. I know it's not from a worm lmbo, thanks though! I know some people may think that.
