Pumping at Work Fail....

After a stressful morning, I decided to head on down to the lactation room here and pump with the good hospital grade pump instead of my PISA.... I get downstairs, get the pump, get the bottles out, and go digging through my bag... Only to find no breast shields... Sigh... And then it hits me, they are still sitting in my parent's sink to dry out... I had a moment of panic and nearly packed myself up and said screw it....but I'm dealing with a low supply issue, and I'm finally getting my supply back so I don't want to jeopardize that... So I took a deep breath, sat on the floor and proceeded to go old school and hand express.... After 30 minutes of that... My hands and arms are incredibly sore (does this count as a workout?!) and I'm thankful I was able to get the normal amount I would pumping it doing it the old fashion way....

Thank God it's Friday.... Because today really feels like a Monday for me!?

Re: Pumping at Work Fail....

  • omg! Doesn't sound like a fail since you got all that milk, but I don't think I would have had the patience! I think I would have excused myself and run to BRU to buy a backup set!

  • More power to you! I would have asked to run home. Mine flange broke yesterday right before my last pumping session. I ended up pumping one side at a time and now I have to continue to do that still my new part comes in. They don't have them in stores anywhere.

  • Ugh. I just didn't feel like running home to get them, driving back, trying to find a parking space again (well, that may not have been an issue since it is Friday and the campus is pretty dead on Fridays).... I usually hand express in addition to pumping... So it's not a big deal.... But if I screw up and forget them after lunch, I'm saying screw it and going back to get them.... One time is okay, twice a day would kill my poor hands and patience.

  • BTDT!!!  It was horrible!  I ended up buying a second pair of shields to keep here just in case for that very reason!  I normally get 17-18 ounces while at work.  I was only able to hand express 10 that day.  I could have gotten more, but I was tired and it would have taken way to long!

I feel your pain!!!  You are not alone!

  • I'm glad it worked out! I hardly ever get anything by hand expression, so I bought a manual pump to keep in my desk just in case - I'm sure one day I'm going to show up with some part of my electric pump.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy an extra set just to stash in my drawer just in case. I got lucky to get what I did in the time frame I did... And thank God I go home at lunch and could pick them up and bring them back to work with me! My second pumping session was much easier!
