Does anyone know of any pregnancy resources in the area for people who make a bit too much for WIC or Medicaid, but too little to buy insurance? My husband and I recently (and unexpectedly) found out we were pregnant. It's good news, but bad timing, and we need to find a OB/GYN in the area for prenatal visits. We'll be moving at the end of first trimester though... This is number one for both of us, and we're excited and a little scared.
Re: Uninsured and unexpectedly PG
I can't express to you enough how amazing the Midwife Center Midwives are!!! They are also associated with Allegheny medical so anything needing a doctor or hospital is taken care of as well. I started going there when I was uninsured (they operate as a clinic on Fridays) then when I got married continued to go there b/c I loved them so much...Finally when I got PG it was only natural to stay there...My first prenatal visit was over 1 hour and we barely talked about the baby!!! It was all the midwives taking time to get to know me and my DH!!! Again if you are looking for compassionate and dedicated look no furthur!!! I never once have felt like a number when I go there...They are not looking to get you in and out...they really care about your concerns and issues. It is located in the Strip district and really you won't be disappointed! As a matter of fact my family just went to their annual client picnic yesterday!!! What medical practice do you know that has a client picnic??? Anyway good luck and feel free to ask me any questions. I am sure that they could help you in the right direction for funding and medical assistance.
I too am actually in the same boat as she with having no health insurance etc. I am actually NOT expecting but we are TTC and the insurance thing has become a topic that is brought up. You have helped lead myself in the right direction b/c my DH and I talk about using midwives instead of the whole scarey hospital stuff. My questions to you are: what type of payments do they ask for? With prenatal care do you still get the ultra sounds and 3D ultrasounds? (sorry I am new to the whole TTC) What are some of the things that sets them different then normal OBGYNs? How often do they see you? any info would be much appreciated, the insurance thing is one of my DH BIGGEST concerns. Thanks
