Ok..I need serious help.

Dh and I are re-doing Ls bedroom.  The budget at the most is $1000.  Things it has to have is bed for 2 (bunk preferable).  Storage for some clothes (closet is not big enough) shelves for walls, toy storage, desk area.

L will be 6 in May and we are going to test out allowing him to go up there alone to play, color, read books, etc. Im thinking about moving most of his toys up there and only having a few down in the dining room/kitchen where we have them now.

Anyone want to help me piece a room for a big boy together?

I will buy most of the big items now and some smaller ones (like lamps, rugs, bedding set, etc later for his bday in May)

I like stuff from Ikea but Im horrible at putting things together.  I get too overwhelmed looking at all that stuff.  So many options and Im not sure what I want.

  • I saw all your bunkbed posts and wanted to tell you that my kids have this from IKEA:

    https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10123996

DD's bed is down there and she LOVES It.  It's temporary - they're sharing a tiny room upstairs until both DS and I are comfortable with him moving downstairs by himself (soon - either this spring or for his 6th birthday in August - he needs his own space).  I like this because it's not super-tall.  It's not all that "finished" though - it's that bare wood that's all IKEA-like.

When we move him downstairs, he might keep this bed and I might put a dresser/desk, something under there.  We haven't decided yet.

IKEA displays it with the TROFAST system - it's really versatile.  You can make little closets, pullout drawers, shelves, all kinds of things.  It's a little overwhelming.

I was just at IKEA last week and they had a ton of bunk bed options that were super cute. I haven't browsed the site for them, but when we were there we decided we'll be going back for bunks for my mom's house.
