Pregnant after a Loss

Talk to me about group A strep in urine....

My nurse called me today and said I tested positive for group A strep the last time I PIAC for them. She said the doc wanted me to get treated with an antibiotic for a week now, rather than when the baby is born. DH and I tried to google it this afternoon and found nothing helpful. Anyone else experience this?

My SIL is a nurse and said it won't hurt me or baby to take the antibiotic and if I still test positive during labor, they will add the antibiotic again to an IV so baby doesn't get sick.

  • Your SIL is right.  You have a high urine culture and since its showing up in your urine now, they treat now.  My SIL had the same thing happen

  • Hmm..They found a tiny amount of group b strep in my urine.  Different things right?  Midwife said they will take another culture around 35 weeks and if it is still present then I will have IV antibiotics during labor.

I've been on antibiotics twice, early in the pregnancy.  Doc said its NBD.

When looking it up online, it was more common to test positive for group b, that's why we were confused. I need to get my butt to the pharmacy so I can start the meds.
