Does anyone get in an after holidays funk?

This week has been really hard for me.  I was expecting a fun Christmas Vacation with the kids, playing with toys, going to the movies etc.

We had a huge snowstorm on sunday/monday so that day we stayed in.  Ds was sick anyway, so that wasn't a big deal except when we had to get to he pedi.  Then I got sick and although the fever and sore throat is gone I can't shake this run down feeling.  The kids have had terrible behavior all week.  I thought that they would be busy playing with new toys, but dd won't play unless I play with her.

On top of it, the house is a disadter, which I can't deal with at all.  I feel so overwhelmed.  Oh and dh is working odd hours this week so I have barely seen him.

I am in a huge depression and can't snap out of it.  Anyone get overwhelmed or depressed AFTER the holidays? How do you get out of it?

Re: Does anyone get in an after holidays funk?

  • Often I do, but I am using this week to get a jump on 2011.

As I am putting the new toys away (in new designated bins) I am culling all of the old, broken, outgrown or not played with stuff.

Same with new clothes for me and DH. Much will be going on CL or Freecycle in a week or so.

I'm eating whatever I want, because I need to lose a million pounds, and have to be serious about it to make it happen.

I'm pretty much letting the kids run wild with the new toys, and they are relatively happy about it. :)

  • I am right there with ya. The after-holiday funk & feeling overwhelmed, that is. I feel like I can't get organized. Since it's Christmas "vacation," you like to think you get some downtime, but as a mom, none of the regular chores/duties lighten up just because you call it "vacation."

But I am trying to stay positive and like Lari mentioned, do a few organizational things with the new toys, and think about some organizational things I want to do in the new year to rid the house of clutter. That makes me feel better.

Good luck! I know how you feel.

  • I usually feel major relief after the holidays.
